Can of worms

So I walk into the office this morning, and one of my co-workers immediately launches into a tirade about his car, its host of problems, and–most importantly–the trials and travails he’s undergone at the dealership to get it fixed.

Eventually my coffee kicks in, and I begin to process what he’s saying. By my second cup, I’m furious. Why? Because I had the same problem with the same dealership about a month ago. They wanted to charge me squillions of dollars to replace a part they’d just replaced last spring. Channelling Dick Cheney–or perhaps his lesbian offspring–I told him exactly what he could do with the thingamajig in question, turned on my heel (insofar as flip-flops have heels), and drove a dozen blocks down the road to Pep Boys, where I received prompt, courteous, reasonably priced service.

So, what’s the lesson learned from all this? Bohn Ford sucks, of course.* Only problem is, I’ve heard similar horror stories from other folks about other dealerships. And while I kinda like Pep Boys, it’s a schlep for me to get there, and they don’t do everything. Are there no competent full-service garages in Orleans parish?

* I do not now, nor have I ever, worked for Bohn Ford, Pep Boys, or any of their competitors–unless they’re somehow in competition with Benetton, French Connection, Lucky Cheng’s, or theatre companies. My opinions are simply those of a guy who’s tired of getting the runaround and would love to see some greasemonkeys get their comeuppance. Comeuppance, I say!

Kehoe Tire on Freret St. is pretty good. They are pricey up front, but I have never had a problem with their work. They fix things right the first time.
