I’m writing to you from Seattle, but I must admit my heart tugged a bit at the sight of those bleachers. I flew in to play with the New Orleans Samba band (Casa Samba) in the Endymion parade a couple years ago. I will never forget marching through The Garden District at night and the astonishing beauty of looking up at the beads hanging down from the Live Oaks as if they were moss. Then again, maybe it was the Tequila shots we did before the parade. In any case, I just had a wee little flash back when I saw the bleacher photo….I’ve lived in a tourist town before. Perhaps you are all sick of it. Just had to share
Seeing Bacchus last year from Gallier hall bleachers just wasn’t for me. It’s too distant and removed, despite elected officials and others whooping up enthusiasm via the soundsystem.
I’ll be roaming St. Charles with the Dionysian hordes this year. It’s an early one, so have your costume ready!
