Seems like punishing the kid in this case is just stupid policy. It would probably be more productive to charge the mother with something minor and give her probation conditional on her doing some things to make positive changes in her and her daughter’s life. It’s kind of sad that the instruction was to “make some money for christmas.” Plus, there’s worse things that can happen to a 4th grader at school than to do a jello shot or two. The school system regularly threatens parents to get their kids medicated or else pay for private school. I’d rather my kid got drunk than spent his childhood overmedicated on Ritalin.
