The Rumor Mill – Revisiting The Death of El Matador
It has been over a year since we mourned El Matador shutting its doors. We celebrated when the owner opened up One Eyed Jacks in the old Shim Sham, even putting the old bar in the back. We all thought Harry Anderson was going to open his magic club that was never going to work out.
I’m not one to gossip but…it turns out we might be right.
With all the construction and mess that currently passes itself off as the corner of Esplanade and Decatur, the buzz on the street is that construction has stopped and Harry has given up on opening his club for one reason or another.
The future of the corner is to be determined.
my understanding of it was that Harry Anderson gave up on the idea before the construction even began, and nobody knows what’s going on with it right now. well, obviously someone knows, but not anyone I know.
Dr. Mysterian’s girlfriend, Eda Cherry, is sometimes in contact with Harry Anderson’s wife, Elizabeth (under her real name, of course, not as Eda Cherry). It doesn’t sound as though they have made any real decision regarding the club but for to put it off for a while while they reorganized and moved Sideshow across the street. That’s all done now
I was just at Sideshow and heard Elizabeth say that they don’t know what the timeline is for the new magic club, but it looks like they may open it midway through the summer. So it doesn’t sound at all like the plan is completely scrapped.
