The 38th Most Unwired City
New Orleans is ranked 38th by Intel among the most unwired cities nationwide. Not bad for a city that seems to be in a third-world of its own.
Looking for wi-fi? Check out Citysearch’s list here to start. I’m sure you can add plenty of your favorite spots to the comments thread, that is, if they still exist by the end of the week.

that low rank is a bit deceptive. There may be more cities that have more wireless outlets, but if they’re hotels and Starbucks, they’re not free access. The local/indy coffeehouses here are kicking Starbucks ass, not only because locals like chicory in their coffee, but because you can go to a CC’s or a PJ’s and go on-line for free. That beats a T-Mobile hotspot at Starbucks or Borders any day of the week.
Now, in terms of “community networks,” we’ll never be very high up, because our politicians won’t be able to figure out how to steal and make a buck on it…
Geez! Been in N.O. 4 times from Fla this year. Most recently for my 25th H.S. Reunion (Ben Franklin H.S.). Let me say this, gambling and tourism has treated our city well, it’s cleaner and the hotel prices are great. Nothing beats an oyster loaf and a bowl of gumbo at Mother’s or a burger at Camellia Grill. We take our fair sleazy city for granted far too often. I’m dying here in retired golfcourse community HELL!
