We also decline to have pets for practical reasons (we’re on the road a lot, our hours at the house are inconsistent, etc). But it seems nearly everyone else in the neighborhood has dogs of varying sizes, so we also get plenty of time to enjoy them in an uncle/aunt kinda way (we’ll have fun with them, but we give them back to mom or dad for the serious stuff).
There’s also the mama cat who apparently belongs to someone (she’s sporting a new collar), but who has chosen to raise her trio of kittens in our courtyard. They’re fun to watch as well.
That said — we’re more than sick and tired of the irresponsible pet owners who allow their little Sweetums or Phydeaux or whatever to take these massive dumps on the banquette in front of our house. Some folks walk around with plastic bags to clean up and that’s highly appreciated. But there are others who don’t seem to care and I can’t wait to catch one of them while their pooch is in mid-dump. Ain’t the animals’ fault.
