Report from Mid-City
Went on a bike ride around 7:15 this evening, got cash with no line at Hibernia on Canal & Carrollton. Proceeded to Sav-A-Center on Carrollton, looking to have my prescription filled: 1.75L Early Times Kentucky Whisky. No dice, Sav-A-Center lines at self-checkout counter 15-25 people deep, full of college students buying up an ocean’s worth of bottled water. Winn Dixie next door was the same story. Rode down Orleans, Cork ‘n Bottle wine/liquor store closed. N-N-Out Gas Station at Orleans & Bayou St. John doesn’t stock 1.75 liter bottles. Proceeded back to Canal & Carrollton Robert, which was a mess earlier today. Stood in line for about 1 minute, purchased prescription with no problems, although the price was $19.99, which is high. Price gouging? Probably not.
A word to the wise: you don’t need more than 1 case of beer per person. If the power goes out after the storm you’re going to have a bunch of warm beer sitting around and that’s useless. Stock up on the hard stuff, you’ll need it if there’s no power for weeks on end.
And as someone asked me in a comment to a previous entry, no, I’m not planning on evacuating. I plan on giving regular reports until the electricity goes out, should we get hit.

You are a stalwart spirit, indeed!
Good luck, and be safe. Or at least drunk.
very courageous to stay with just 2 liters of whiskey. for lily in lafayette our power was out
for around 10 days…once you start that neighborhood sharing stuff, your whiskey will gone in around 2 nights.
I ran like a jackrabbit from Kenner for andrew but my brother stayed and it wasn’t very bad for him.
He was able to stand on a levee and curse the storm
with no ill effects.
I hope the same happens for you.
