Coupla useful things

1. For those who live in the Faubourg Marigny and Bywater, here’s a map of flooding in the area. I don’t know who’s making all these eyewitness accounts, and I can’t vouch for their accuracy, but if they’re right, the neighborhood fared pretty well.

2. For those who move in certain circles, here’s a list of where folks are and how to reach ‘em. Pat Jolly’s on the list–maybe you should be, too…

    Hi,
I`m a 43 years old man from the north of Germany in Europe. I have 7 Kids and we live on the coast from the Eastsea. The things that happened with you all are very bad. We pray for all people in the afflicted area`s. We hope that you all will dont give up and stay together. And , please: don`t give any plunderers or other gangster a chance. I think, a theft of food is o.k., but no one needs a new tv or computer or anything else in this situation.
So, God bless you all and stay together.
from Kiel/Germany the kindly regards from
    Michael and his family

In an effort to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the company I work for, MyTechSupport.com a web programming company, has setup a website which connects people to houses. It is located at:
    http://www.katrinahousing.org.

The idea is that those who have an open house can post how many openings they have, and then those who need a place to stay can search by their various needs and ability to travel. The service is obviously free and we hope that it is useful to any one who needs a place to stay for a while. Thanks!

First, my heart and thoughts are with all those affected by Katrina. I’ve never been much of a blog person, only because I forget to write, but this blog is wonderful. Right now, I’m doing what I can to support and help the victims, which really isn’t as much as I wish I could do. What absolutely amazes me is this…when will the powers that be actually start using common sense with emergency planning? Many that remain were not able to evac. Where could they have turned for help leaving? Also, is there some unwritten rule that says in a man-made disaster, show the world and each other our best, but in a natural disaster, it’s a free for all? *shakes head* We’re Americans, start acting like it. Help your neighbors.

Slidel…1498 West Hall…finally got a phone call through and found uncle, R. G. Temple (Bob) at home. Info for those interested in that area. All I know is street address. Am told there is a hospital close by. RG crawled into bed when water hit 3 feet and went to sleep. When he woke up water had receded. Car is soaked and wont start. Seems to have enough food to make out, but water is a problem. Store a couple of blocks aways is giving water and ice. RG’s neighbor walked down and brought him back water and ice. We live in Houston and can take him in. Son in Austin said he had heard that all of Slidel was going to be evacuated. Does anyone know if that is true? If so, when and how? My email is maryrae@ev1.net. Any info is appreciated. Thanks…..Mary Rae

My heart goes out to all who have been deeply affected by this storm and its aftermath.

I have tons of family in southern Louisiana/New Orleans but lucky that most evacuated before the hurricane took effect.

Also, wondering how the historic sites faired in the Marigny (e.g. - Musee Rochon?). Would love to help in the renovation and reconstruction of this area (i’m a grad student in arch./int. arch) - at some point.
