I miss my father
he died during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. When I speak to people and say that i am from New Orleans- I now get the "look".
The "look" is the face people make when something bad happens. Immediately after the look - I am asked - did your family get affected?
And i think, " am i gonna cry now" !? This is hard for me to think about - so I have to write about it-
I miss my dad.
I can't hug him anymore, call him when i am sad - I have been sad often- i want him back, but that is only being selfish- i am crying now - as I think about what happen to me and all the other displaced folks.
I find myself wondering - what if I could have gotten my father to leave when my mom left. he refused.
i admire my father for his stand - I am saddened by the result
- I am saddened by the people charged with taking care of the city- they failed. I understand to err is human, but man it hurts when you know it did not have to be that way.
I am sad that I can 't look in my father eyes anymore and tell him I love him.
I will see him again -
I know my father did what he thought was right - I am proud of him
He was a decorated vet of the Vietnam War and work hard for 37 years at the veterans administration hopsital as asst chief of FISCAL - My father loved New Orleans so much he took a paycut and demotion to be in the city. and this is how they payed him back.
I like to make 4 month proposal for Nagin and Blanco - If they don't have a viable plan on how to protect and rebuild New Orleans - they should be immediately replace with people who care about the city.
I heard former mayor marc morial - who shook my hand outside of the church where my classes were held because my school was overcrowded. He did nothing tho change that as mayor. Anyway - I heard Mr. Morial say (from the comfort of New York and no emotion in his voice) New orleans would get rebuilt - but he had no idea how- I was shocked- This guy's dad was a pioneer to the corruption in New orleans politricks. His family and countless others made a lot of money on the backs of the poor and uninsured. And for him to offer nothing more that a proverbial whimper on response to how we are going to rebuild the city that built him is an outrage!!
While our true New Orleanians are screaming to be heard for their basic rights as humans.
And getting slow or no real answers.
I am praying for the city that gave so much to America, but got so little
