I can see my house from here!

…on several aerials today. Pretty tight shots showing car still in front, apparently a complete roof, no water for blocks. The entire neighborhood looks pretty much status quo from the air (at least as of Wednesday, when the shot was taken).

A live shot from CNN this morning also showed the area around the office (Broad and Orleans area). About 2 1/2 to 3 feet of water, but roofs intact. No nearby fires so far. A mess to clean, but things dry or can be replaced.

I’m thrilled. But I’m not.

So many have lost so much. Best we can do is go back as soon as they’ll let us — and use our good luck and what we have to help those who weren’t as fortunate.

that has to be a small ray of hope for you guys. don’t knock seeing a small light at the end of a long tunnel.
and your right, perhaps this will afford you an opportunity to get back at some point and help others less fortunate.
Your beautiful wounded city and all its residents need a lot of TLC.

    Dear Craig,
all your words here in this blog and the “up-and-down”-feelings during these days will never be forgotten. I thank you for your humanity and your loving thoughts for so many suffering people coming deep from your heart. You didn’t know anything about the situation you’ve had to leave in “your New Orleans” to save the life of your loved and yourself - you didn’t know if or how your office and income will go on neither your home will be part of waterworld for ever - - but you wrote in all these hours, what never will be forgotten.

Thousands of miles far from your country we feel the fear, the hope, the shame and the love - always again the love - between all your words - and see:
a little bit of your love an sympathy comes back to you now.

Me and a lot of friends here in Germany will do what ever we can, to help you build up again, what these days (and not only the storm…)have destroyed.

Thank you, Craig Giesecke, that you showed us in these days, that we are one big family of human beings.

We will be here, not only NOW - we will be here in a month or two or more… whenever you need every kind of help. For sure.

    Klaus

I sure hope your home is intact! Prayers and thoughts are with you as well as all the others effected by this terrible devastation. It’s going to take time to rebuild from all this. I wish everyone the very best of luck.

I’m so happy to hear your home and office look basically intact. News like that makes me confident and gives me hope that New Orleans will rebuild.

    Laura…

The best one I’ve seen is at http://maps.google.com/

Type in an address, New Orleans, then make sure you click on “Katrina” when the map comes up.

    Navigate around. Good stuff.

It’s nice to see all the help… but why don’t Americans try helping out not only after a ‘disaster’, but FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES? As a nation, you guys do MORE DAMAGE TO THE PLANET THAN ANY NATION ON EARTH! Using more fuel and resources, destroying more environment- including screwing around with nature’s DNA not knowing jack shit about the repercussions- i.e Monsanto, being so wasteful in general, not to mention bombing the shit out of and torturing/killing people of other countries. Just fucking oblivious…a Christian nation? How many of you actually READ the bible and understand it? Do you REALLY take Jesus’ message about greed, etc. to heart? You guys need a real wake up call… maybe 1/2 the country needs to be flooded…to save the future of Mother Earth (the ‘dead’ rock with green and blue stuff on it).

I was wondering if anyone out there knows if it is flooded in Orleans Parish around 10 Neron Place? And, if so to what extent? Thank You!

Pontious, why are you choosing this time to spew your venom. It is obvious that you aren’t being very christ-like with you using vulgar language and talking off the wall. If you can’t do anything to help the situation you really just need to go back to bed and sleep it off.

The aerial photos at NOAA are more detailed than the Google ones. My brother and I used these photos to figure out the water situation at his house in Metairie:

    http://ngs.woc.noaa.gov/katrina/KATRINA0000.HTM

They’re very detailed, you can even figure out how badly your car is flooded.

Good luck, Craig. Been reading your stuff all week.

Betty, don’t waste your time on the guy. The faux-christians will rant and spin and sputter, they always do. Real Christians are too busy raising money and working at shelters to have time for nonsense like that.

    Take care.

DO NOT OFFER A NICKEL OR A MINUTE TO THIS MESS! Force the govenment to make the tough decision and take money from the war rather than relax back and allow us to pay for yet another one of their mistakes. Force them to do what’s right with the monies they have. Screw funding IRAQ and ISRAEL, America is crumbling at its foundations!
