I can't tell you how many times I've had 20 minutes of tape and been toldl to edit it down to 10 minutes or less. I think they got the essence of the first half of our discussion, but maybe they're saving the rest of the "FutureWorld" discussion for use later. It would be interesting to drag out the interview, say, a year from now and compare it to what actually goes on.

...and no -- we never discussed cheese. Or Houma. But thanks for the free plug.

bollocks on your interview. tell me again about that "hyperlocal" view that this site provides, mike. you moved outta new orleans months ago. dont get me wrong, i am happy for you and the site, as it has provided me many months of entertainment since i first started my quest to become resident critic no. 1. but the fact that you were interviewed because you are metblogging new orleans from grand cayman, grew up in baltimore, and lived in new orleans for a total of five years is just complete bullshit to me, and were friends, so dont get your panties in a wad over my comments, but what gives?!!

peace

I tried to caputre the stream unsuccessfully. Hopefully I can get a recording from the BBC. I wasn't very impressed with how they cut us short, leaving out the responses to being asked what we thought on the future of New Orleans and whether we thought the response was adequate or not.

Craig started with an update on what the situation was in New Orleans now and his situation personally and physically from what was gathered by satellite photos. The interviewer then asked me why my Mother was still in New Orleans. I used it as an opportunity to delve into the issue of mainstream media's reliabilty and misleading information. Craig covered why he thought the reporting came out as it did. Then we got cut short.

I didn't find it very fulfilling - I had the urge to talk about the big issues and the essence of why we had more desirable information than the mainstream media...how and why our blog fit in as it did during this crisis...and why metroblogging, with its network of highly focused city bloggers will continue to steal the focus from the mainstream. Afterall, we were on a program focused on the BBC about blogging and podcasting. It made sense, at least to me.

The focus was not on us, per se, but on the repetition of our perspective of what's happening in New Orleans. Which we do. Right here.
I'll have to continue this as a regular post another time...

Ah, the danger of high expectations...

Happy Birthday....

I forgot to say that we went to Covington and Mandeville yesterday to help some family cleanup. Covington actually had some places with power. There was a grocery store, a lowes and some other places open. The grocery was giving away free ice.

Mandeville didn't have any power that we could see . Some of the gas stations were manually pumping gas from the tanks. I didn't get a chance to go down to the lake front.

There are a lot of large pine trees down. I went back to Baton Rouge through Madisonville and most of the huge power poles down Hwy-22 were damaged. It'll be awhile before they have power but I was actually able to make a cell call while in Mandeville.
