Mother In Law Lounge on the Rebound
We were driving down N. Claiborne Ave yesterday and passed by one of our favorite nightspots in the city, Ernie K-Doe’s Mother in Law Lounge. There were a bunch of people out on the sidewalk, so we pulled over to see what was going on. Tee Eva was out on the sidewalk with a huge pot of red beans, and Ms. Antoinette K-Doe was being interviewed by a man from the Cabildo. We walked inside the bar to find it gutted down to the studs after flooding with three feet of water. The paper mache Ernie K-Doe head survived, and we’re told the Ernie K-Doe statue was rescued as well.
We talked to Antoinette for a while, and she’s ready to start rebuilding the bar. She’s got a new ride too, after her stretched pink Cadillac limousine flooded– it’s a hearse. Clearly an appropriate vehicle in these times of loss and mourning. She plans to trick it out with the help of 9th ward inventor Mr. Quintron. We can’t wait. This diversion was just what we needed on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Chris, thanks for the pictures. It really does give NO a face again. I read this site just to relax from the hustle of my san francisco madness.
What style in the face of disaster. As usual, you NO’ians have still got your whit and wits about you.
Thanks for posting these Mr. Martel. I can’t wait to go there again.
