It’s been a very busy week for me. The radio station is finally back on the air, who knows who’s listening though. But anyway, I wanted to post about this earlier in the week and just couldn’t get to it but it is eating me up. If you pay attention to the news (and who around here can’t right now?) then you saw some of what are now being called Katrina

Please, please find out who let that woman testify. They should be raked over hot coals. Seriously, could we *any* look worse? This woman stated that she “had eyewitnesses” that the levee was blown. Are you kidding me? What really makes me bananas is that these conspiracy theorists think that the levee was blown to flood the 9th Ward, but the flooding in St. Bernard was accidental. As a resident of Arabi, the first town in St. Bernard after the 9th Ward, I got just as much water as the 9th Ward, so I find that… offensive. And I don’t find many things offensive. But to say MY flooding was an accident, while YOURS was caused by the Big Bad White Man, just chaps my hide.
While I understand the frustration with giving these “conspiracy kooks” a forum in the US Congress, I don’t see how this necessarily hurts our chances of getting levee money. While it may provide some twisted excuse to people who are looking for a reason to not rebuild the levees anyway, the only thing that will sink us is if we and our representatives stop advocating. If the isolated statements of a token few weaken our resolve, we are in real trouble. EVERYONE needs to remember one of the first things we learn when growing up: DON’T BELIEVE IN BOOGIE-MEN!
I feel ya on that Richard but Im telling ya the Federal Government is looking for every excuse they can find to not ship levee money down this way and when we’re “represented” by kooks it’s guilt by association.

Seriously, Tucker Carlson makes the point that what she’s doing is terrorizing poor black people:
Now, why a sista would want to do that to a brotha instead of trying to help him, I can only begin to imagine. Maybe she’s become a self-hating African American. Maybe she’s cut a deal with the government so that she won’t have to go to the camps. More likely, she’s found a way, like so many others, to exploit other people’s tragedy for her own gain. Not that she didn’t experience Katrina as a tragedy on a personal level — she lived in the 9th Ward herself, after all. But sometimes the fastest way to bootstrap yourself is to use someone else’s back as a starting place.
I couldn’t help but think, while I was sitting there watching these statements ejaculate from her head, that this is a woman who has always blamed someone for everything that’s ever happened. Probably out of habit at this point. And when there’s no one to blame, you blame the undefined “they”, “them” or, if you can get away with it, “The Man”. Its the same logic that allows people to thank God for everything good that happens. So she would have been better off blaming the devil - *that* I could respect.
I should say though, that she does represent a demographic in the city, and a big one at that. I’ve heard the same kinds of statements from people on other issues and I have no doubt she believes what she said - but that doesn’t make her right - it does make her insane. I would put money that there were thousands of people from New Orleans nodding and agreeing with her. She’ll end up being a ‘community leader’ for the next twenty years. Maybe she’ll get her own cable access show!

Despite the problem that these “ignant” people have with recent facts, there remains the FACT that the levee WAS blown up in 1927 TO PROTECT THE CITY AND the promises at that time were NOT kept - and the people still remain uncompensated for that.
So, at one time, the “theory” was true. For us to move on, we need to understand and acknowledge the past and be honest about the future.
Over 1,000 peolpe died, tens of thousands lost their homes or both, But Ms. French and company got their feelings hurt with this childish make believe racism, they are the most shameles self-centered types I’ve ever seen, they have nothing to offer but much to take away.
