I Got a Parking Ticket!
This is so exciting! It’s like there might actually be some level of functionality in the city government or something!
I was parked on Decatur St. right next to Checkpoint Charlie’s– evidently this is a bus stop or a taxi stand or something, because that’s what the ticket said. There was no signage indicating that it was, in fact, illegal to park there, but oh well. I kind of figured it was because there weren’t parking meters, but I chose to risk it because I didn’t think the city was going to make their metermaids work on Mother’s Day. Anyway, since there are no signs there I guess I could contest it, but does traffic court even exist? And if it does, how much of a mess is it going to be?
Tip- always pay your parking tickets online via this site: https://wmq.etimspayments.com/pbw/include/new_orleans/input.jsp
Sometimes the city doesn’t even enter the ticket info into the system, so if it doesn’t show up on there you don’t owe them a dime.

sorta’ odd to say but, congrats!

I got a ticket last weekend outside the King Pin. I’d parked facing the wrong way and then decided it was best not to drive any more that night so I left it there and came back the next day to get it on the way to lunch and sure enough - a ticket for improper parking.
By the way, one of the reasons I took a cab was because I kept hearing that there were about 8 people stopped on St. Charles Ave. Rumor on the street is that the police have been asked to be less lenient on any violations that could turn into revenue for the broke-ass city. Guess now we know the mayor’s plan to bring back nola - it will all be financed by parking tickets, moving violations, and DUIs. Great! Whatever works. Probably just vicious rumors started by a bunch of drunks that’re upset they got caught.
I’m just going to pay the shit - no way am I involving myself in the city’s infrastructure any more than is absolutely necessary - probably all Thunderdome at city hall now anyway.
I think it all started coming down for Jazz Fest. I heard there was a lot of ticketing going on then. Personally, I don’t mind since I’m a parking veteran, but for you new people - they’ve started ticketing, but in the typical ass-backward fashion, they have not yet replaced all the signs! So, use deductive reasoning. I wish they would start TOWING people who park right on the corners, so that you can’t see if a car is coming before you turn. I know what you mean Chris Martel, the return of some kind of enforcement makes it seem less like Deadwood on the Bayou around here.
Who hoo… I’m not the only one.
Checkpoint Charlie is in Germany.
I didn’t wan’t to admit it, but it’s true what
they say about American geography.
