Where’s Jack-do
In just a few hours, my little neighborhood, The Freret Street Neighborhood Association, is starting the Freret Street Festival. Its the eighth one they’ve done and up until a few weeks ago it really didn’t look like it would happen. From the website:“At 11:00, Neighborhood Housing Services of New Orleans will have a Rededication Ceremony and Second-Line with the Hot 8 Brass Band & the Untouchables Social Aid & Pleasure Club in front of 4700 Freret Street.”
Sweet!
Come by and have some fun. Once a year the party comes to me and I get to pass out in my own yard for a change.
**** Update: Dunbar’s has a booth at the festival and are serving BBQ Ribs and Fried Catfish. The are going to open sometime next yeat so this is your only chance to get some Dunbar’s for the next six months or so.****
Also, tomorrow (Sunday) the Pussyfooters are having a car wash at the King Pin to help raise money for the neighborhood toward the river from me (Saint Somethingorother). So go by and have your car washed by some cool chicks - It’s for a good cause! The Kingpin is located at 1307 Lyons St, which is basically the corner of Prytania and Upperline, right behind Zara’s

Damn, I won’t be back in time and we’re gonna be living right down the street.
Is Dunbar’s open yet?
Dunbar’s is not open yet, and, sadly, there’s no word on if/when it will reopen.
Hi Jack,
Apologies for using the comments section to get in touch, but I couldn’t see an email address for you.
I’m a post-grad environmnetal research scientist based at University College London in the U.K. I’m writing my dissertation on Katrina, and specifically on how people were able to use blogs as a platorm for the production and consumption of views in its aftermath, as opposed to relying on more traditional forms of mainstream media reporting.
I’m in town for the next month doing interviews with various folk, and wondered if you’d be interested in having a chat about your blogging/Katrina experiences? If so, please get in touch on the email address below, and hopefully we can arrange something.
Cheers,

Lemme get this striaght, Roy. You’re a researcher and you couldn’t find my email address? I’m not sure what to make of that.
The form lettre’ is fishy enough without information gathering.

So, are you telling me I shouldn’t have given this guy your address and phone number? : )
Not at all. He’s free to take his chances and stop by like everyone else. I’m always doing the Mossberg at my house. I’m down to one bulb in the living room light so when someone knocks on the door I scream “Marco” and fire a warning shot into the doorframe.
His address is right for University College London, but it is
missing the .geog. before ucl.ac I could not find his name in any
of the subdepartments in the Department of Geography.
Is this another scam?
Smells like one to me.
