NOLA DIY
Doing it yourself is pretty much the mantra of any New Orleanian these days, but the NOLA DIY website was around long before Katrina and has always proven to be a valuable resource for indie event listings around town. A much more simplistic interface than Offbeat, nola.com, Gambit, etc., it is usually the first place I look to for info on local goings on. Granted, the breadth of information contained is not as comprehensive as the papers, but there are often listings there that don’t make the papers.
The site is now using a clean, simple, database-driven events listing reminiscent of craigslist, and all it needs now is more people using it so the listings can be more complete. Hopefully this post can direct some more traffic their way because I think http://www.noladiy.org/ is a great, local, independent, non-commercial resource. Add it to your bookmarks and send any events you’re setting up their way.

right on. noladiy.org is the shit!
I totally agree, it’s such a great resource. They have a NOLA DIY Yahoo group as well, but I don’t think they’ve been sending out the updates over the last couple of months.
I’ve found that the best places to find out about events and stuff to do around here tend to be community driven, or even run by a single person, like La Fete News or the mailing list that Pat Jolly runs.
I’ve been trying to get a community off of the ground dedicated to all things creative in NOLA. Less about music specifically, since there’s already so much that covers that, but really anything related to the arts or creativity. I started it off as a Livejournal community, but I recently realized that it could be a lot more active than it is, and having it only on Livejournal really limits the amount people who will find it and be able to use it. I just started a Yahoo group for it yesterday: CreativeNOLA. My hope is for it to be a really great resource and bring people with interests in all different types of art together for collaborative and community purposes.
