She’s a complete waste of space
My blood has begun to boil again. After weeks of self-imposed attempts at not caring about our loser leaders, it seems I just cannot get away from their stupidity. The latest involves our fearless Governor Kathleen Babbling Blanco.
In a letter dated March 7th, 2006, our wonderful Granny Governor asked the Feds to explore turning Interstates 10 and 12, 360 miles of them in the state of Louisiana, into a “Toll Facility”, meaning the state wants to start charging you every time you need to get onto the interstate.
Babbling Blanco states in her letter to the Feds “As you know, the southern portion of Louisiana was recently devastated by two hurricanes. We believe this project is essential to the economic recovery of the state and to better prepare for future events.”
By future events I guess that she means that Contraflow would really be smooth by making people PAY to get the hell outta dodge.
Please remember, this is a state that just passed a budget of 27.6 BILLION. For a state that has 4.5 million people living here. And the bigwigs in Baton Rouge don’t have enough money, or enough of our money. It is pure insanity.
Senator David Vitter has sent KBB a memo basically telling her that she is making a fool of everyone in this region. There is no way that I-10 and I-12 will be turned into toll roads. It just ain’t happening. Plus she decided to go for it without even bringing anyone else into the loop.
“Finally, Governor, I regret that this very significant formal submission was made by your Administration to the federal government with no adequate briefing of me or, as far as I know, other members of our delegation.”
Just WTF is happening here? Was she soooo batty AK that she just started sending out request for anything that popped into her head? Has anyone ever really seen her and Ray Nagin together at the same time? I really am beginning to think they are one and the same.
Yeah Kathleen, it’s not hard enough living here with crime, no hospitals, no health care, no schools, no local leadership, cost of living expenses that are out of control and you, our dear wonderful granny governor wants to stick it to New Orleanians even more…for what? Maybe a new sugar mill in Bunkie? Jesus H Christ we are so unbelievably fu**ed.

WTF?!?!?!
I’m sitting here, my mouth hanging open, almost unable to comprehend this. Is this a cruel joke?
Can we re-start the recall now?
Unbelievable.
I’m calling for her resignation.

Plus the rates would be tripled when the contraflow is announced.
Why hasn’t a recall started already?
Blanco was exposed as an ineffectual leader (and I used “leader” very, very loosely) before, during and after Hurricane Katrina and nonsense like this further proves it. She’s a buffoon and Louisiana deserves better. I sincerely hope there are more wise people who will vote her out when she comes up for re-election. Unless there are more out there like the ones who re-elected Nagin for Mayor (if so then Louisiana is screwed).
Fuck that bitch.
Here’s a thought…toll booths at the state line, and if you have Louisiana plates you’re exempt. If you have Texas plates, you pay double.
Governor’s statement on tolling I-10 and I-12
“I want to assure the people of Louisiana that my administration has no plans to establish a toll on Interstates 10 and 12. The misinformation regarding my support of a toll road is false and misleading to our citizens. I no more want tolls than I want another hurricane.
“The Louisiana Legislature instructed DOTD Secretary Johnny Bradberry to pursue ALL options regarding transportation opportunities. Like any good business person, Secretary Bradberry and his staff are doing just that-exploring the options. Whether they are popular or unpopular, we owe it to ourselves to explore every angle. The toll idea is one of many ideas Secretary Bradberry and his staff are compiling for consideration, but it’s dead on arrival.
“Furthermore, if a toll was given serious consideration, it would have to be brought to and voted on by the legislature. At this point, my secretary was simply doing the necessary research on this and other possibilities.”
“The secretary informed the members of the Congressional Delegation, including Senator Vitter, last spring of the various options being explored and received no opposition until Thursday.”
“Senator Vitter, however, is on record voting for tolls when he voted for the federal transportation bill. And perhaps what the junior senator wants us to forget is that he voted to add no loan forgiveness provisions for our cities and parishes after the largest natural disasters in American history. This means that crippled cities and parishes that were forced to make federal loans to survive the storms’ affects cannot even ask for forgiveness. This has never been done to any state suffering a disaster and Senator David Vitter himself offered this harmful language. I want him to explain that and get that matter straightened out.
“The junior Senator knows my phone number and can call me at any time to discuss this matter further.”

I’d love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation. I like the use of junior as well, reminding him that a woman outranks him both at home and in D.C.
She’s backpeddling and trying for a very obvious attempt at damage control.
I stand by my original comment:
Fuck that bitch.
oh - I don’t doubt she is - I just still think it’s great she called him the junior Senator. :-)
Vitter’s a little crybaby punk.
Double my ass people in Texas have been
stealing our fish for years!

Ray: “Here’s a thought…toll booths at the state line, and if you have Louisiana plates you’re exempt. If you have Texas plates, you pay double.”
I’ve lived here for more than two years and was born here, but I have Texas plates from having grown up in Houston. But even if that weren’t the case, your suggestion would still be stupid, counterproductive, and insulting.
In conclusion, please go f*** yourself.
So,being born in the state somehow gives you license (pun intended) to violate state law? Hmmm - I never knew that. Dangerblond - is there a state statute that grants blanket immunity to people who are born in Louisiana but “grow up” other places, like, oh, I don’t know, Houston? No? I didn’t think so.
Owen, Louisiana statutes are fairly clear, as I recollect, about transferring title and registration within “x” amount of time. How do I know? I was hassled several times in college about my Georgia tags. My voter registration was still in Georgia, so that was my legal state of residence and I was in the clear. So, despite my own “growing up here,” I was still expected to transfer registration if I intended to become a resident of the state, which I did.
You, however, have stated that you have “LIVED” (emphasis added, of course) in the area for 2 years and I can guaran-damn-tee you have surpassed the grace period, unless, of course you are a full time college student and then your Texas tags are fine. But somehow, from your tone, I don’t think that’s the case. You are, in effect, depriving the state, parish, and city of much needed revenue. So, as soon as you become a “legal” resident and cough up your share of road usage fees, and this is only me speaking here, YOU shut the F up.
Oh while you’re doing that, get a sense of humor. They’re nice.
Owen: I grew up here and just moved back, but I have Texas plates too since I’ve spent most of my adult life there and just moved from Austin.
It was a JOKE, sweetie. Go fuck yourself yourself.
you can see the paperwork here:

and decide for yourself. My view is if her name is on the letter, she knew about it. And if she didn’t then since when did the LA DOTD start running this state?
