Stolen thunder
I read this editorial in the paper this morning and thought, “Dammit.”
When I saw this quote in the paper earlier this week, I was thinking how great it would be to put that motto on flags, bumper stickers, etc (except using the real word Fujita used) and distribute them around town. More than the other mottos we’ve seen (Make Levees, Not War, for instance), I think this one might finally grab the attention of our elected types and the appointed ones, for that matter. But now this motto is before the public and, once again, I’ve lost out on a marketing and possibly financial bonanza. Like I had the wherewithal to get anything going anyway.
The editorial itself is a little namby-pamby in its wording, but most folks don’t pay any attention to them anyway (except to see what the paper advocates, then do the exact opposite). It’s also a half-year or more too late, since so much of this city remains in a deep malaise brought on and fed by inaction, political infighting, posturing, squabbling, oneupmanship and, in some cases, groveling. I think we’d get a wider, more serious audience if we contacted Steven Colbert and got him to put our politicians “on notice.”

I rather like the contacting Stephen Colbert idea. Maybe if enough of us contacted him, he might actually give it some thought.

I think the politicians ARE getting the Make Levees Not War> message (see Ned Lamont…) and I think we will see sweeping change in the House and Senate this fall….but I do like your Stphen Colbert idea!
