My favorite part about this article that talks about the closure of the East N.O. landfill is when, in reference to the Waste Management officials, “argu(ed) in a written statement after the court verdict that any lengthy closure will retard the city’s post-Katrina recovery”…
Not only do I appreciate their spot-on choice of words, but I guess city officials love the trash piles that continue to haunt the streets of our city. Or perhaps they happen to live in neighborhoods where there are no trash piles…
I also like the part in the article where the trash haulers are told to go through the normal channels to get a permit as this will expedite the process as quickly as possible.
Are you kidding me? I think it is time that the word ‘quickly’ be removed from our vernacular around here because it clearly has no meaning anymore.

    Heard on WWL yesterday landfills in St. Charles Parish are willing to take the debris but have not been contacted by anyone.
