New Idea for NOPD Logo

082006_copshurt.jpg

So, I lifted this picture off of nola.com, it goes with this story. The story is about some car chase that ended up with this NOPD car getting totalled, but I would like to use this picture to call attention to the graphics on the side of the police car. All of the new NOPD vehicles are getting this design on them, surely you’ve seen one by now. I’ve been trying to get a better picture of one for months, but I’m always afraid of getting beaten down by cops for doing so, so this picture will have to suffice.

To put it bluntly, it is a weak design. These cop cars look like they belong in Providence, RI or some other milquetoast place whose criminal element is limited to pets escaping from backyards and kids shoplifting candy bars. They have this vaguely futuristic look, reminiscent of the cop cars from the film “Robocop.” No wonder crime is out of control here. Our police look like a bunch of dandies driving around in these silly things. Might as well replace their guns with super soakers while you’re at it. I really preferred the old, old design of a simple crescent and star and nothing else. That meant business. But obviously the department is trying to look progressive and 21st century and what not, so that isn’t going to work. So here is what I think should be placed on the sides of all new NOPD vehicles:

While the department is trying to appear to be high tech and 21st century, we are barely in the 20th century here. The city is being run by thugs and petty thieves. The NOPD needs to command respect and it needs to convey the truly rugged nature of its existence. That’s what I’m going for with this. Have you seen the police in Mexico? They carry M-16s and ride around in the back of pickup trucks. That’s called intimidation. We need more of that.

Before the hurricane, NOPD wanted to be more active in the community to gain trust so that citizens would take a more active role in the judicial process, which I was all for. But times are different now. There is no judicial process, and the criminals know it. They know that even if they get caught looting a construction site or abandoned property, the jails are full, the courts are backed up, so the worst they have to fear is a night or two in jail. What they should be fearing is a pistol whipping and billy club beatdown by two or three of our city’s finest. So, to whoever designs the graphics on these cars, take my idea into consideration. The NOPD needs to change its image.

Holy crap! If I was pilfering the neighbor’s lime tree and I saw that image branded on the local police department vehicle, lights on, ready to arrest me, I’d run like hell and would swear off my fruit addiction forever!!!!!!!

Very nice design. I haven’t seen the new popo cars since I’m still stuck up here in Denver. But even all busted up against a pole, they still look rather … rent-a-copish. Reminds me of my old Barbie corvette decals.
I just ran across your page looking for some sort of commemorative event for the storm going on in Denver. In fact, I’ve spent my entire work day looking, and so far all I got is this fru fru bike race against global warming in Boulder. Good idea, but c’mon people. There are like 1,000 evacuees up here, musicians and all sorts of folks from New Orleans.
In any case, thanks for the laugh. You ever been hit point blank in the face with a supersoaker? Ow.
some friends of mine in new orleans have a cool site you may like: http://www.nolafugees.com

Nice logo, but Providence, RI is a bad example of milquetoast. The criminal element ranges from the Latin Kings to Supreme Court justices and everyone in between. And as far as the color scheme, let me put it this way: you wouldn’t teach in the public school system there.
