What a difference!
Maybe it’s just this part of town, but I don’t think so….
The recent moderation of the evening weather has been a HUGE help to everyone’s attitude, activity and general well-being after the early-week downer of the Katrina anniversary. TBK and I were walking Magazine St. last night and all the bars, restaurants and stores were jam-full. Then we walked back to the house and all sorts of folks were out, hanging around on the sidewalks and talking and just generally enjoying the night air. Looks like the weather’s going to hold through the weekend as well.
Aside from just being the Labor Day weekend, the students are back in town (good and bad about that) and football season has cranked up again. At least from an attitudinal perspective, we’ve gotten through the long, gritty summer and are looking forward to less sweat, fewer mosquitoes and, at least before long, a respite from the invasion of flies than has afflicted so much of the city.
We were also cheered late in the week to see a truck pulling a streetcar around the bend at Carrollton and St. Charles. Work continues on the line itself, but actually seeing a streetcar moving on the Uptown track provided a giant boost.
Get out and enjoy the nice evening weather. There’s plenty going on this weekend, including BBQs on Sunday at our house and the place across the street. Grab a drink or ten. Reconnect.
