The other game at the Dome
I went to the Tulane game Saturday night in the dome. Not so much to see Tulane get its ass kicked, but to tour the new dome and all its ammenities. For a cheap ticket and cheap parking, you too can tour the dome while a crappy college game is going on. No fanfare, no hoopla, not much at all about the opening of the dome for Tulane’s first home game. The crowd outside was decieving at first, I thought their might actually be a huge crowd for this game. I was hoping that most people would take advantage of the miserly opportunity to see the dome all cleaned up, but it turned out to be a small crowd as usual.
Tulane has a marching band now. It’s about 25 people big, and you couldn’t hear a thing they were playing, but at least there was something there. The old games had a group of guys in blazers miked up to the PA, but now they finally broke down and suited up a marching band. Baby steps. The dome looked great, new terrace level seats, and new lights that actually lit up the field, not like the citronella candles they had before. It was very bright in there.
Parking was 8 bucks, very cheap. It was not a bad evening for the price. If your bored on a Saturday, go check it out. Buy the cheapest seats you can get, then go sit anywhere you want. The ushers didn’t check anybodys tickets.
I forgot how big that place was. The gondola is gone now, but the new scoreboards are very high tech. I know Tulane sucks, but it’s a good way to kill a Saturday afternoon, even if your just going for the Post K tour.

Tulane really has gone down in football but that was way before Katrina.
BTW-Their marching band has always been a joke.
