See the sights at Armstrong National Park
The government is putting some cash into Armstrong park and making it a National Park. Has anyone ever walked through Armstrong park? I know it is there, but who uses it besides hookers and bums? No self respecting intelligent person would walk around there at night. Is this really going to help bring life to the projects next door, or will it bring new victims in more frequently? I hope they plan on putting bunkers and watch towers around it.
Enough with the Jazz shit , man. Every time a local politician speaks about what New Orleans has to offer, they mention Jazz as one of the great economic pulls to the city. Are you kidding me? HAs anyone here listened to Jazz?
It sounds like a train wreck. Thats my opinion and not relative to the story, but can we focus on reality for one minute.
His honorable Emporer Harry Lee went to fucking China to get them to open a distributorship in Jefferson. This will bring building materials straight to us at drastically lower prices. He has got his shit together. The great domed one is not doing anything to bring REAL business down here. Get on a goddamn plane and tell every fortune 500 company you will give them anything they want to get their asses down here. Okay, so the company will get major tax breaks or not have to pay taxes at all, but the thousands they employ will pay taxes and buy homes and buy cars and shop at Shoefty and Funky Monkey and all the other mom and pop shops all over the city. Get it?
We don’t need a Jazz park, we need a goddamn free tech school to teach people how to make fucking microchips and cell towers and solar panels and anything else thats going to make billions in the next twenty years. Everybody wins.
P.S. Zydeco sucks worst than Jazz.

hilarious and true. on the news this morning they were talking about cafe reconcile and what a valuable service it provides, taking troubled youths and teaching them how to work in restaurants.. okay, sure it’s a good program, but I just kept thinking, why not teach them how to use a fucking computer instead of keeping people trapped in the service industry for their entire lives?
You should consider moving somewhere else.
Meet me at the Maple Leaf and I promise I’ll change your mind.
Uhh, just because I despise the local music doesn’t mean I hate the city. Zydeco is from Cajun country, not New Orleans. Zydeco is for tourists who buy panchos on Bourbon St and let their morbidly obese Ohio wives flash their giant gelatinous flabby knockers on the balconies.
As for the Maple Leaf, been there done that. Not impressed. Can I just not like local music?
If I wanted to go hang out with overpriveledged Tulane/Loyola fratty hipsters to hear the “Wolfman”, I would be at the Maple Leaf. Oh, I did see the guy from the movie “My Bodyguard” there. He was also Animal Mother in “Full Metal Jacket”. That was the highlight at the Maple Leaf.

Paul P, you know that you dream of suckling me and my sister teat.
paul..maybe..just maybe…you were with the wrong crowd….
what a pity..
who said i was talkin about local music..
Gez…..
You teach people tech skills and they’ll leave, because there are no jobs here for people who do that kind of work. Because civic leaders like Scott Cowen don’t even think Computer Science is worthy of appearing on a Tulane diploma, and the City’s idea of a technology visionary includes third-rate con artists like Greg Fucking Mefferts.
The technology capitals of the world only want us for our jazz and our food and our go cups, and when we try to do technology they laugh at us. Because we truly are pathetic.
being a hotbed of high tech industry might be a little much to ask at this point, but it wouldn’t kill us to at least have a tech-savvy populace. we’re gonna have city wide wi-fi sometime in the near future and I somehow doubt that even half the population owns computers.
One of the top 10 domain name registrars in the world is headquartered in NO.
Also, take a look at local company, Turbosquid.com.
Paul P has officially become the reason that I will no longer read this blog. Asshole.
Wow, Fred, you must be a Republican. When is it such a crime to voice ones opinion? I doubt you will stop reading, you’ll want to see what I write next. That way you can spew out vague remarks like the one you just wrote. You don’t know me, or anything about me, but you call me an asshole.
What was so offensive? Isn’t metroblogging a group of opinions about ones city? That is my opinion. Come on, you can do better than asshole, right? See, with that remark , I have everything I need to know about you. Your opinionated, you tend to make snap judgements, and you obviously love Jazz. How am I doing? Let’s see, you probably play an instrument and have been doing so from a young age, probably honing your skills in a high school jazz ensemble. There is nothing wrong with any of these attributes.
I don’t like Jazz or most local music, but you do. Okay, I don’t think your an asshole for liking it, so why am I an asshole for not liking it? Talk to me Fred, I sense great anger in you. Remember the words of Yoda?
Oh, Termite? I actually would like to apologize to you. Like I said, The writing seems angry, but I personally am not. I’m stuck in a goddamn restaurant everyday with nothing to do, so I sit here and write whatever pops into my head. It’s my own personal form of therapy. None of this is directed to anyone personally. I like to write in the form of sarcasm. I think its funny, but some people take it seriously. I’ve benn to the Maple Leaf a number of times, its a local landmark, the remarks are just good unclean fun.

Paul P is the best thing to happen to Metroblogging all year. We need more hate, ya buncha hippies.
paul, i agree with Ray (as usual) you are the best thing to come to Metroblogging. ..trust me.
thank you for the apology, but it’s not necessary.
i’ve had more than a few people (here) take me too seriously. so i understand..
i’ve just laugh it off, it’s not worth it.
(but i do find it hilarious when *they* dish it out, but can’t quite seem to take it in return) ;)
hope to meet you soon, the Abita’s on me!
Love Ray. Hate Paul.
Okay, So you hate me. These are harsh retorts for voicing ones opinion. Hate is such a strong word. Remember, Fred was angry, and now Therese hates, one more step and they turn to the dark side. They must be working for the Emporer.Trust your feelings.
I hate brass bands and I think abita beer tastes like dogshit. Yes, it’s possible to live here, to love new orleans, and still not like certain aspects of it. And it should be possible to complain things without getting shat on by a bunch of retarded cheerleaders for the city. get a sense of humor, people.
Hey Paul, its ok not to like Jazz. But, figuring that Jazz started the beginning of the music scene that we have now, its important in today’s society that we recognize that fact. Maybe the leaders know that Big Companies don’t wanna step foot down here, no matter what offers are out there. Companies DO think about crime, corruption in local politics, school system, overall saftey, environment for effeciency, etc…. when relocating. Tech businesses are out there (Lakefront), but the powers that be are holding it hostage (corruption).
So, lets take a look at it. Its hard for New Orleans to have big business come in, its hard and long to get rid of the crime element in the city, its hard to get people to relocate to the city even before katrina happened, its hard to get the NO public school system right, - So what can the city do in the meantime to get some money flowing in? Since we already have tourism as our main horse, lets dress her up nice so people who are interested in Jazz can come down and spend some money. I don’t think its a bad idea, but if thats the only thing they’ve got - were in trouble (not like were in paradise right now either).
My suggestion, have everyone go and talked to the SBA. Start your own business and become a rags to riches story. Make new orleans become known for what you do, and not the music you dislike. My 2 cents.
This is going to be off subject - sort of… Ever since I got to N.O. I have wanted to go inside Armstrong Park. It looks big and interesting and as though at one time it was beautiful with grass and trees and flowers. I look through the bars and long to walk over those little bridges and feed the ducks that I imagine were once there.
When I ask Why I can’t go inside the answer is “Crime” or “You don’t really want to go in there”
Yes, Yes I do I want to go in and walk around. If the answer to people not getting mugged for shot is to close the gates then we have had it all wrong the beginning. Does that semem like the way to go about “fixing” a crime problem?
For Christ sake take the time and money to clean up the area and open the park up so that the ones in the city who don’t rob and kill people can enjoy it.
I can’t wait to be able to go into Armstrong Park be it local or national if I can walk inside and enjoy what it has to offer it seems like a step in the right direction to me.
“Clean up the area”? Jeez, it’s not like you solve the decades of social, economic, and educational problems that led to our rampant crime problem by going out and renting a powerwasher on your day off.
When you get it all solved, let us know.

They oughta turn the old projects on Louisiana Ave into the Master P National Historic Park. Bout it! Bout it!
