Enchanting View

Hotel%20LeCirque1.JPG

Driving downtown from St. Charles Ave to Lee Circle at dusk, you can see the lights of LeCirque, from a distance, it’s simply gorgeous. This is our city?!

One thing I was really enjoying prior to the storm, was making the early evening hotel circuit to see local musicians in a setting other than a stinky dark bar full of the same faces. The St. Charles Hotel was fun on Friday, the front is all windows and there you can sit right at the streetcar stop and watch tourists. Matt Lemmler played piano and the guys from Brooks Brothers would come over after work. Bob French would play at the Fairmont and I would also head over to the Ritz occasionally. It was a nice place to hear Kermit. I intend to start investigating what’s happening on the elegant music scene once again even though some of the best hotels remain shut. If you have any good tips, please share them and perhaps I’ll see you there !

I love seeing this hotel when I drive home from work at night.

Glad someone is finally blogging the Le Cirque lights! I chatted with the couple that was in town (from New York) trouble-shooting the software and programming the light sequences - they have different schemes for major holidays and a rainbow scheme for gay-themed events. Apparently the hardware alone cost something like $625,000!

I’m told that the club in the new Harrah’s hotel is pretty nice - good venue, semi-classy (it was described as a nice place to take a date before dinner) and they’re booking some top-notch local talent. Might be worth checking out if you’re not philosophically opposed to all things casino.

I thought those Le Cirque lights were cool at first but I can’t believe it’s a permenant installation. It’s too damned “vegas” for me. But then again I spend lots of time at the Circle Bar looking for things to bitch about. it’d be nice if they had solid colors that changed gradually rather than the psychedelic mayhem that’s there now. I wonder, if you’re staying in a room there, is your room constantly changing hue or do the lights somehow not shine into your window?
