N.O. parade routes limited for 2nd year

Article here.

“The Mid-City area with all of the blight, and with the abandoned houses, makes it a lot harder to control what’s going on,” Riley said. “We certainly wouldn’t want to see some kid getting pulled into some abandoned building.”

Oh, of course. You’re doing it for the children. Way to take the focus off of the real issue at hand here, Mr. Riley. That issue being that your police force is lazy, ineffective, and completely unable to recruit or retain officers. It’s not like you can prevent people from being shot on one parade route anyway, so what difference does it make?

Dude, mid city is a ghost town. Get over it, its not the NOPD’s fault.

have YOU applied to work for the police department? policework is tough in general but when you add to it the state of new orleans, the fact that existing police officers are probably suffering from heavy PTSD (along with the civilians of the city) and the image people have of it, do you really BLAME police officers for being reluctant to apply/stay? give them a break.

No I don’t blame them.. you could make more working at McDonald’s right now than a rookie police officer makes. But that doesn’t make what I said untrue and it doesn’t mean we should settle for a crappy police force.

and Mid City might not be as populated as the uptown parade route but I don’t think it’s any less safe. Most of the crime I hear about these days isn’t in Mid City.

    Bravo Chris!

i live uptown, but i’d much prefer those old crews to march in Mid City as they once did.

keep the Mid City love going baby. ;)

    Go Saints!

    NOPD was broken pre-Katrina.

I talked to some Nat’l Guard guys who have been stationed down there lately. They said the Nola police don’t want to do much. They get pissed when the guard makes them do their job.

Maybe it would be a good idea to shine a little light on these areas around the parade route so everyone can see where help is needed. We can hope…Right ?

This is not a done deal until the City Council meeting Thursday. We’re hoping for an SRO crowd to support returning Mardi Gras to Mid-City. Come on down and join us if you can.
