The lid is on the Coffin and King George has all the Nails

St. Paul Travelers Cos. Inc., Louisiana’s largest commercial insurance provider, plans to cancel all of its commercial property policies in the New Orleans area next year, sparking fears that other insurers will follow and slow the region’s economic recovery.

Here we go again. As a business owner, this is not the best news I could get today. I don’t use Travelers, but is my insurance company next? I know I don’t have enough insurance as it is. I have liability insurance in case someone slips, but as far as all of the equipment and the business itself, I have next to nothing. They only insured us for twenty thousand for loss of equipment. Anybody who knows the restaurant biz can vouch that that ain’t shit when it comes to kitchen equipment. A commercial stove can get into the $6000 range, and that’s for a small one. They also told us they could not insure us for loss of income. If another one hits, it’s all over. Twenty grand won’t replace half of what I would need.

I hear business owners in the Quarter are falling off like dead flies in a bug zapper right now. It is officially code blue time for many of the businesses in the Quarter. They say fear of “slowing” economic recovery? I think its more like grinding it to a halt. You can get a business license for a bar or restaurant or any retail place without insurance, but how would you be protected? Some jackass falls down and sues you and you wind up having to pay him out of your paycheck for the rest of your life. Of course, you would no longer be working at your restaurant because you would have to sell it to pay him off.

This place will never get back to normal as long as huge bureaucratic corporations get to break all the laws and do whatever they want to whomever they want. This is another nail in the coffin.
The state of Louisiana doesn’t give a shit. The rest of the State saw no damage, and its business as usual to them. They don’t care what happens down here as long as they can make abortion illegal and have a fucking Bible in every hand and keep Christ in their Christmas, they’re happy.
Who cares about those demonic unholy Creoles? Maybe if we fill the city with underage boys, the Bible thumpers will come and spend some money down here.

The Feds are the true bastards in this giant pool of giraffe dung. Yeah, I know it was our choice to live here, but this is our home. Alaska is no place I would want to live, but they seem to like it. Home is home and nobody can change that. I flick through the channels and when I happen to land on the Spike Lee documentary, it all comes back like a giant rush of flood water. I can’t stop watching it even though I know it will infuriate me all over again and I won’t be able to sleep that night. This will go down in history as the greatest failure of our nation’s government. I’m not talking about the Levees or the Corp or FEMA. I’m talking about the government of the wealthiest country in the world sitting down on its thrown and watching a major U.S. city die a slow painful death. Not any city, but one that supports a major percentage of energy to the rest of the U.S. It is a city that has more culture and history than even our beloved Boston or Philadelphia. The only city that was so fucking important that it was purchased because of its major significance.

I guess I’m getting tired, tired of hearing about the same unhappy depressing shit every day. The same stories of this one and that one getting screwed by somebody scroll across the news all day long. There has not been a day since this fucking disaster that I have not heard a story of loss. There has not been a day that I have not heard the name Katrina at least ten times. There has not been a day when I have not thought about leaving. I know we all feel the same way. The same thought of leaving always ends with “Fuck that, why should I have to live somewhere else to have the life I want?” I shouldn’t have to. King George talks about the horrendous atrocities of basic civil rights in Iraq as he lets our city, a great American city, crumble to the ground. He is the Nero of the 21st Century. I insult Nero with the comparison.

I will never understand how this supposed “Super Christian” President can look at himself in the mirror. I hate him. I think I always will. I know I always will. It’s too big to wrap your head around. Why does he choose to not do the right thing? With a simple scribble of pen on paper, he can change the face of the gulf region. He can regain the respect of millions of Americans. He can be heralded as the President who saved an entire State. He can go down in History as the President of the New Reconstruction of the South. We would build statues of him on Canal St and praise him for rebuilding the jewel on the Mississippi. Yet, he chooses not to. And for that, I truly hate him. It has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats for I am neither. It has everything to do with common decency. I hate him for the power he wields and the weakness he has over his own corruption and indifference. Thank you sir, thank you for making me lose my faith in the greatest country the world has ever seen. I hope you sleep well tonight bastard, I know I won’t.

I own an art gallery on Magazine and have my insurance through Travelers. Thanks for the heads up. They went up 40% last year even though I did not have any Katrina claims.

Like you, I am simply going to have to drop everything but liability and keep my fingers crossed.

I hear what you are saying and agree 100%. I highly recommend renting the video ” Bush’s Brain”. A bit hard to digest all that is Karl Rove but well worth seeing.

If there’s a hell, there’s spot reserved for that bastard. If the Himdus are right, I can’t imagine what he’ll come back as – perhaps a woman in Afghanistan?
