Postpodern Society

I’m not exactly a high-tech kinda guy. My PC is over two years old and this laptop is five years old — making it virtually steam-powered in comparison to the other high-tech tools out there. I still marvel at my out-of-date digital camera, which is woefully outdated, and I declined to get the camera option on my latest cell phone. My boat is powered by the wind and, frankly, I feel there should be “osaurus” added to my name. But no matter…

Those of you who are a bit more up to speed (and one day I might join you) need to take a gander at the New Orleans Podcasting site. It’s highly neat and will be a real source of information and images. Thanks to Craig Kraemer for the heads-up. Check it out.

Speaking of sailboats and high-tech things (which are not often mentioned in the same sentence), I was listening last night to Radio Margaritaville. I was pleased to hear Jimmy Buffett shout “Go Saints!” all the way from (literally) Timbuktu. Being a Gulf Coast boy, he has (despite his globe-trotting, multi-faceted and multimillion-dollar yet self-made empire) maintained extremely close ties with his home area from New Orleans to Pensacola. Like chef Emeril Lagasse, most of his contributions to the region since Katrina have been very low-key and yet very important. Both have taken plenty of time from their highly busy schedules to Give Back, and that impresses me. They haven’t forgotten where they got their start(s).
