Habitat for Insanity

I count my years in New Orleans by the number of Mardi Gras I have survived. And here we go again . . . The first parade of the season! Krewe de Vieux is one of my top three favorite parades, being the only one that rolls through the French Quarter is a big part of that fondness. I stopped by their den on Thursday to get a sneak peek and see if anyone needed a hand. Whew, so much work goes into this parade. Mardi Gras is often touted as the the greatest free show on earth, but it actually costs locals plenty of money and time to make it happen. No matter what krewe you’re riding in this year, thanks to you for making it happen. Krewe de Vieux is always on the cold end of the Mardi Gras season and, as Chris mentioned, it’s been so cold and rainy. I’ll be there, rain or shine !
Y’all have a great parade . . .

Have you never heard of the concept of spoilers? I’ve never hit a back button so fast in my life. I want to see the parade at the parade, not at my desk. ;-)

Actually, no. Having been involved on both ends of parades, I certainly don’t see the garage version as a ’spoiler’. The excitement of ‘rolling’ far exceeds this glimpse of behind the scenes work. Add costumes, crowds, marching bands and you have the magic of the whole experience. I believe it’s good for people to know this aspect of carnival.

I have some fresh shots of the insanity, if anyone’s interested. Click here
