WTF?!?!?
For the life of me I can’t figure out why I still read the news when this is all I get out of it
Am I missing something here? Am I just out of my fucking head? I’m really starting to wonder. Jesse and Ray teaming up to fight against the man. I mean, am I witnessing a civil rights movement against an imagined enemy or are they right in thinking that there’s a conspiracy to keep blacks out of New Orleans? I agree completely that the recovery is moving pretty slow - everyone knows that. But how can Nagin stand up there and say it’s the fed’s fault when “Last month, New Orleans city officials unveiled its first decisive plan” and the UNOP has yet to be approved? Oh well. I guess the plan is to hold a march to draw attention to the lower 9th ward and the fact that people aren’t back yet - I’m cool with that. But the logical extrapolation that the lower 9th ward is iconic for the government’s neglect of urban areas like the south side of Chicago….I don’t know that I’m going to buy into that. Seems like kind of a stretch.
And of course, there’s the political agenda: “plan to appeal to Gonzalez again to allow New Orleans natives to vote at out-of-state satellite locations in the November election.” The thing is, at this point, I’m starting to think the only political agenda is that of Jesse, the Black Caucus, and the rest of the Democraps based on fear that they’re going to lose a sympathetic following in New Orleans. It is really starting to look more and more like they are the one’s manipulating the demographics in order to benefit from the political outcome. If I was to have a march protesting non-residents voting in our elections and denouncing the Black Caucasus and the mayor for attempting to illegally manipulate the electorate what name do you think I would earn for myself? Would there be any support for such a march? Probably not.
And of course, with all this is the idea that families should be monetarily compensated for their losses due to the storm. 9/11 is being used as the precedent for these statements and I won’t say it is without merit in the case of the death of a family member. But really, I just don’t like that kind of “we’re going to get you some money” pandering - it’s bad form given the situation and mighty Republican of them if I may say so.
But here’s my favorite Nagin quote from the article: “You just can’t explain why two years later, the city of New Orleans is still struggling…”. Sure I can. It’s as plain as the nose on his face. But then, I clearly don’t understand any of this and am missing something.

misdirection. that’s all jesse is. an effort to take the eyes off the real problem- inept (and sometimes corrupt) local government. that, and nobody cares about new orleans. seriously. the rest of the country couldn’t care less. why should they? we can’t even get our own crap straight… and when they come to help, we tell them to mind their own business. damn, i’m ready to get myself out of this stupid city.
The reason the 9th ward has not been rebuilt, is beacuase the people of the 9th ward have not returned and started work on their properties. Lakeview came back…Gentilly is on its way…the 9th ward residents are hapily living in Atlanta/Houston/etc. on FEMA money.
Christy… maybe you need to take a drive threw Lakeview…..
Christy, ditto what Termite said. While you’re at it, check out the Filmore neighborhood- between Elysian Fields and St. Bernard, Gentilly and Robert E. Lee.
Great Blogg/Post - Jack,
But I do believe that Mr. Kennedy and Termite have some good point’s.
Hey, Christy, did you hear the one about the Katrina recipient who got FOOD STAMPS? And she bought an orange and used the change to buy a BOTTLE OF VODKA!
And she was DRIVING A 2008 CADILLAC, TOO!
Well, I think the point is that people haven’t returned to the 9th ward. Apparently, the mayor and Jesse Jackson believe people aren’t back because political agendas are not letting them come back. There’s where I really have a problem. When they say that, what I think they actually mean is that the government (specifically the republicans) have not rebuilt these homes and booked moving companies to gather all these people up and bring them back. I was just over in that part of town last weekend and I don’t remember seeing any signs that read “No blacks allowed” or road blocks or anything. If people are so all fired up about coming back then they need to come on back and start the long process of slowly losing their mind like the rest of us have been doing.
I was wondering yesterday how many people they really represent? The article mentioned 200,000 people not back but that doesn’t take into account the people who’ve decided they aren’t coming back, people who are coming back as soon as their house is done being rebuilt, people who are just waiting for LRA money to come back (hell, that’s 100,000 right there), etc so it really isn’t a good number to bandy about with. So how many people do they think are “being kept away” and how is that being managed because whoever’s managing that should manage the Road Home Program.
Then this morning I hear on the radio that the recover czar (whom I’m really starting to respect a lot) says:
“That 400,000-person number, I think, was one that was kept on the books in order for New Orleans to get certain benefits. I think the actual numbers are closer to 300-and some-thousand, maybe 325,000, and we’re at 230,000 now.” Here’s the story
And of course Nagin refutes that claim. I have to laugh because it sounds like something the city would do - crooked bitches. And I’d believe Nagin (he is the mayor after all) but I can’t what with him being crazy and not having any credibility and all.
I hope the czar is right though because that would open up one big-ass can of shit**. Plus it means that just about everyone’s back and Jesse doesn’t really represent anyone. If he wants to get some credibility he should start a program and have people sign up that are displaced and we’ll see how many people that’s going to work out to be - of couse, you would only be able to sign up if you’re black so all you crackers out there who can’t get back are ass out. Luckily, Jesse and Ray seem to believe there aren’t any whites that can’t get back on their own. Hey, thanks for the extra helping of racial tension and divisiveness you assholes.
**If Ed is right, isn’t it a crime to lie to the federal government in order to obtain undeserved funding? It’s at least malfeasance right? How many laws would that have broken? Anyone know? I don’t. What about the elections? How many people voted? what does it do to our crime rate since it’s per capita based? what does it do to the poverty rate - also per capita. Would the city have to repay those ill gotten funds to the feds? I can’t even think of all the potential consequences. Seems like whether its true or not, he’s going to have to say he was mistaken and hope it didn’t attract anyone’s attention.
Dear Jack,
I take it the talk about closing MRGO was just talk?

RE: WTF
I was at that meeting where you were invited, the Irish Channel Neighborhood Association meeting, and on my way there was stopped in traffic because of the party in clay square. we heard at the meeting from the 6th district police officer who was there to speak to us that there was a report of gunfire at the park, that’s why everyone was cleared out.
if you ever have any questions about police happenings in our hood, let me know, i have a source who gives me da scoop on all shootings etc. in our hood. I’m just down the street from you, Craig!
