A friend of mine told me about this house. He did not give me any details. the odd thing about the house was that even before you looked into it there was a sense of dark and light.

We need a way to remember.

Today is the 15th anniversary of Jack Barlett's murder on Harding Dr. by Bayou St. John. He was leaving his mother's house on his bicycle going thru the neighborhood to his house when he was shot by one of two running teens. 8:30 in the eve. Lucky shot hit the big artery in the neck. (I tried to spell carotdit). So many people feel the pain of murdered frieds and family. And we still live here.
What a beautiful tribute the house is.

Thanks for your personal comment. We saw it and hope that more people see it. It's inspiring and so completely visceral. It says so much about our violent crime and also helps us deal with our collective loss from the storm. It gave us a sense of connectivity.

thanks for posting that. i've known sue and karen for almost as long as i've lived in new orleans, though i haven't talked to them since pre-katrina, i guess. i've been to the house many times, but it's been years - it surely didn't look like that when i saw it last! completely amazing. now i need to go by and see for myself. and maybe stop in and say hello to those gals.
