"In which verse of the Bible does it say that human life begins at the time of conception? Is it the part where these ancient knuckle draggers describe the human genome and the concept of splitting cells? I don't recall seeing that one in twelve years of Catholic school. These people had no concept of science and medicine yet 6000 years later, we still take their words over our own."

It was always my understanding (after 16 years of a Catholic school education, including college)that just as God breathed life into the dust to create Eve, it is at the time that a newborn takes its "first breath" that the Soul enters, giving spiritual and physical life to a being; at death, the last breath releases the Soul, and the body dies spiritually and physically. So, what's the hang-up here? A fetus isn't a human being until it breathes!

Let's see...

Hate George Dubya and he got re-elected....

Fuck Sugar Ray but he got re-elected....

Can't stand Dollar Bill Jefferson and in a shocking abuse to my sense of justice, equality, and common sense, he got re-elected.

Now, the GW thing I get because all those right wing religious zelots in the midwest elected that fucktard. But the Nagin/Jefferson thing...that was local.

I don't think I'll be voting again.

The first canidate that stands up and says: "THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE PLACE FOR A MORAL COMPASS" gets my vote. That means I won't vote in a presidential election until 2078

I used to take the stance of respecting everyone's beliefs and not wanting to offend anyone's deeply personal convictions. But the last decade has seen many religious factions vying to trample my deep personal convictions, that being that we are all entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I guess its time to start stepping on people's beliefs in supernatural things in order to preserve the real things that are of utmost importance. We are at a watershed moment in the history of our species where we can either choose to break the bonds of ignorance that hold us back, or refuse to accept the next logical step in the evolution of our collective knowledge and say "this is as far as I want to go." We can't pull the covers over our heads and make it 1950 again. Can we all just take a couple minutes to say goodbye to whatever illogical beliefs, fears, prejudices, etc. we may be holding onto, take a deep breath and grow up so that we can start to sort through this giant shit-pile of a world we've made for ourselves?
