Zoo Orleans, Louisiana
WHEREAS,
I was getting ready for work this morning I heard that Babs had declared today Louisiana Recovery Day. They didn’t say much about it other than that. Then on the drive in I heard on the radio that today is Louisiana Recovery Day but didn’t say much about it either. By the time I got to work I’d decided something fucked up was going on so I started looking around online for a second to see what I could find. This is really it.
WHEREAS,
the lame-duck Governess, concerned about her legacy has given herself an attaboy in writing before leaving office. To me, that’s what it looks like. What else explains a statement like this: “the ability of our citizens and communities to recover has required substantial efforts on the part of government agencies” or this: “government agencies at the state and local levels have redoubled their efforts and devoted considerable resources to help rebuild South Louisiana safer, stronger, and smarter” or this: “local and state agencies have implemented recovery programs that are making a significant impact in people’s lives;”. I mean I hate to be cynical about it but it sure looks like a thinly veiled pile of bullshit. Anyone wanna step up and defend the state and local governments in their recovery efforts over the last two years? We can go to Mother’s and have a Debris Sandwhich (the traditional food for Louisiana Recovery Day).
WHEREAS,
she’s an ass. She’s incompetent. And so on. But years from now when we’re all dead and gone and history lessons are given; the paper trail will speak louder than anything else. I won’t be there; no one will be there, in those floating New Orleans schools, built based on “bobble head technology” to stand up and call her a useless fuck and she knows it. She’s preserving her legacy. The tone of it makes it sound like every thing’s done and the recovery is complete. Princess Blanco lead the state of Louisiana though some of its most troubling times. Her work complete she retired with modest dignity to her family home….Bullshit!! I’m declaring this “Blanco’s A Bitch Day” and I’d create a cute little proclamation thing but she isn’t worth the time it would take. I swear, this little proclamation of hers couldn’t be more meaningless and contrived if she was standing on the deck of an aircraft carrier declaring victory in a war that had barely started.

For fun, I was looking through the other proclamations when I, really, I have to say, I was shocked, appalled, and disgusted when I saw this
I guess this is what she was referring to when she said “redoubled their efforts”. She just meant they’re all praying twice as hard. I think I’ve now found the fundamental flaw in the state’s hurricane protection system: It’s based on the main character of a 2000 year old superstition that lives in the sky to keep the hurricanes away.
Uhm, ok, so what’s this procalamation supposed to do? ‘Cuz it seems like to me in the time it took for Kooky Kate to dictate this, she could have passed some meaningful legislation that would have had the cajones to actually get something done.
FYI…..watching television over the weekend…I noticed that they are running a commerical for LA. It features lots of television stars and all the efforts they have put in to rebuild. And, how well it’s coing a long…and that again, it’s a great place to come and visit and vacation! That all is basically “peachy” there!!
I am deeply saddened by whatis not going on in New Orleans! I live in the District of Columbia and information is sketchy at best. Today, I was pissed off to read in the Washington Post Business Section ated June 12th about The Blackstone Group’s head honchos plans for their firm going public. These s-o-b-s are making millions of dollars. The chief executive is set to receive $667 million dollars after his firm goes public! His stake in the company would be worth $7.7 billion! Okay, this is a capitalist country. Does anyone else agree that these jerks can make this kind of money when millions of people are living below the poverty line? Our government is so corrupt and ineffective that it did nothing to help the survivors of Hurrican Katrina while totally being responsible for the devastion there. I am unemployed, waiting for Social Security Disability applikcation to be approved, my oldest son has been to IRAQ twice (with the 4th ID out of Fort Hood, TX), and is preparing to return within days to Iraq or Afghanistan, I am a survivor of homicide (17 year old son killed in gun violence in DC in 1991), and married 30 years to a Korean veteran who has had a claim in for compensation for injuries incurred for six years! Needless to say, I am a mad Black woman and wondering what the United States of America is really about. Someone help me to understand “What’s Going On?”, as Marvin Gaye sang in the ’70s.
“I was shocked, appalled, and disgusted when I saw this.”
Well said.
I almost hate to ask where you went to find the “proclamations” as it might make my stomach turn worse than it already is – but I would be interested to see what other “profound thoughts” our state legislature has decided to write down…
Just when you think it can’t get more embarrassing…
A list of all the proclamations Blank-look has issued can be found on her how I waste my fucking time doing shit that doesn’t mean anything page. Be prepared for a long walk through a lot of stupid though since there are 547 of them. So she’s averaging one every other day since she’s been in office (roughly). But in all fairness she has issued 6, that’s right, 6 legal proclamations in the same time frame so it all balances out.
Page through and lets compare favorites! Between “sober day” and the oddly unadvertised “Confederate History Month”, by the time I got to “Magic Week” I’d had about enough. That’s right folks, sobriety gets a day, bunnies in top hats get a week, and that time when we could own slaves before we got our ass handed to us by people who weren’t (as) racist gets a month. Now you know the rules.
Glad I could help clear that up for ya’ll.
Oh, and Jim, it is a peachy place to visit since the French Quarter and most of the tourist areas were unharmed and had the money to rebuild quickly what little was damaged. People should come down and visit. You can run around for days and easily never know the storm did anything. But for those that do come to visit, please take a second and consider spending a couple of hours out where people actually live in the city so you can see the other side of it too. Then go back and tell your friends how interesting, fun and sad it was.
Thanks for clearing that up…..making sure….I see the television ads and then hear your side….was just a question!!!
Right, but my side is from the living here part. Sometimes I run into the Quarter on the weekend just to sort of visit. It’s nice to be able to do that.
Down here for months they were playing these Road Home Commercials about how the program was helping people rebuild and get back home. No one I knew, or anybody they knew could seem to find anyone that had been helped by the program. So I understand the confusion about the commercial.
As it turned out a short time ago the Governor got her ass booed at a congressional sub committee meeting. You can see some of it here
And then it was announced that the Road Home was going to fall about 5 Billion Dollars short but the company managing it already took their cut and gave their executives huge bonus’.
So everyone come down to visit, uh, we could use the money.
Thanks for the laugh.
I’m voting for Nader!

It’s not supposed to be funny…but this is
Okay after a quick perusal:
Alan Ray After Day (day after what day???) (Who is Alan Ray and why should I have to think good thoughts about him: especially the day after?)
Ronald Regan Day
Marriage Day ( please…)
And please look at how many she did 09/01/05. I guess she did not have anything better to do with her time?
Man I love irony. Listed on September 1, 2005 – 3 days after the storm – our beloved Governess established ‘Homeless Awareness Week’. To quote: “…encourage all citizens to become more aware of the hardships of families and individuals who are homeless”. If I’m guessing right, at least half a million people did exactly what she asked….Fiercely aware. And would it be in bad taste to note that she declared September ‘Life Insurance Awareness’ month on the same day?
On a more serious note though, what are these things? Because some of them are just hold overs and sort of “givens”; like Mother’s Day is proclaimed. But the rest….I dunno. Kinda silly. I’m sure she just rubber stamps the shit and doesn’t even look at it while her mind is on bigger problems, uh, like trying to look a little less like a 65 year old little boy.
