Trash Royalty Trinkets
This tiny SDT Bull was THE celebrity throw to get last night at Orpheus. I woke up early on Monday and drove down Magazine St. to do my run in the park and Magazine was still a deplorable mess from Toth’s parade the day before. This is Richard’s Disposal’s jurisdiction. By the time I text messaged pertinent people about the mess, Richard’s had deployed their street teams with their rakes at Napoleon and Magazine by 10:30 am. I have been very lenient with this lag-time in the past two years of recovery but am less so since we signed the big bazillion dollar trash contract. It seems Richard’s krewe was a bit slow but the street was spic and span by the time Orpheus rolled in the evening.
On that note, I gave a formal bow to Sidney Torres as he passed early on in the Orpheus parade. The best throw was certainly this SDT Mascot Bull toy doll. Having Sidney on the first float set a good tone for priorities regarding where we are in reality vs. Mardi Gras. He looked really excited as he realized we were sincere about our accolades and started throwing cups like a madman. He’s kept up his end of a a very high standard regarding the cleanliness of the 25s and he’s made it sexy to give a shit about setting a higher standard for New Orleans regarding cleanliness across the City.
This morning I woke up and made an executive decision to sit out this Mardi Gras even though I had a great costume at the ready. I am trying to not feel like a failure because I have now officially blown my consecutive MG streak since I made the scene at Frenchmen every year since 1995 but it actually felt more about the consecutive years than the need to show this year. I am really enjoying the day off! It’s nice to not worry about finding a place to pee or finding a cab ride home.
I hope everyone is having a safe and enchanting day. The rain is holding off and it’s a beautiful day, if not very breezy day out there. At least it’s not cold like it has been for much of Mardi Gras but then, it’s almost always a blessedly beautiful day. I know some friends who are are holding hard onto their head-gear today.
Happy Mardi Gras !
