I thought Las Cruces, New Mexico had the worst mail delivery in the US. We routinly get Christmas cards, sent from 2 blocks away, in May. Utility bills 3 months after service is shut of, and credit card bills long after late charges are applied. The only way to stay ahead of this is to pay everything online, saves time anyway- no need to open mail.

Snail Mail is dead - long live the internet!!

Mail boxes are going the way of the public pay phone. By that I mean, they have to be used enough to justify the cost of servicing and maintaining them. I lost my checkbook months ago and realized I was only writing one check a month if that. And even that one I could easily avoid. And as for letters and other bullshit - pu-lease, I haven't had a land line phone in 10 years, so why would I use an even older technology and write a letter?

Snail Mail is Dead!

I think they got rid of the mailboxes because the postal workers simply weren't emptying them. I used to use one on St. Charles by the 1-10 overpass on the Uptown side and I realized my mail was sitting in the box for 3 days at a time! Better to take it to a post office or a business where their mail is picked up regularly...

I've just simply resigned myself to driving to the post office everytime I want to mail something. It s*cks.

It's not a New Orleans thing--the USPS is removing blue mailboxes all over, and has been doing so for a while now. Apparently they are not cost-efficient. There used to be one up the block from me that I used frequently because I don't want to clip my mail to my mailbox. I've had both incoming and outgoing mail stolen that way. Maybe if enough people complain we can get some of the blue boxes back? I won't hold my breath, though.

I have found only three mailboxes.

1)Harrison Ave, way at the end near JP line. Weird outpost.

2) Uptown at Pine St and St. Charles Ave but the other day I went to put two letters in there and it was jammed full, so I didn't.

3) I have just recently seen one more uptown but I can't remember where, it might be on St. Charles.

Something is very wrong for the inmate who is depending on that letter arriving in a timely fashion, quelle horreur ! You really have some twilight zone mail stuff happening.

Yeah, there are no mailboxes in the 'hood. What happened, I wonder? Did mailpersons here lobby to keep the boxes off their routes so's they wouldn't have to deal with unloading them?
