(THE METROPOLITANIZATION OF NEW ORLEANS) Today New Orleans’ population has regained nearly three fourths of its pre-Katrina level; currently it I estimated between 330,000 to 350,000 citizens, I’m told that about 15,000 are new citizens to the area. Sometimes out of a disaster; a good thing comes; the storm has forced New Orleans’ neighboring cities of Baton Rouge, Houma, Hammond and Gulfport to become a megalopolis- metropolitan region; making this market- a business opportunity for 2.5 million people; similar to that of “Dallas-Forth Worth” “Washington-Baltimore” “Minneapolis-St. Paul”. Our regional Leaders should request the U.S, Census Bureau, in next 2010 Count to consider expanding and consolidating this metropolitan region, to include those communities, making it one of the largest in the south. And eventually people will be able to commute, from Gulfport to Hammond, from Baton Rouge to Houma, from Houma to New Orleans; and someday there should be a connecting light rail between these cities; under the management of “The Southeast Louisiana/Gulfport Transit Authority; SLGTA.
