Thanks so much for the kind words to us, your cousins to the west. The greater Houston/Galveston area is messed up, but I know that I don't need to tell yall what it's like to be in a city post massive hurricane. So many trees are gone, so many houses were flooded and a lot others were dragged out to sea or pushed so far inland that you can't find anything at all. I'm sure yall seen the photos of Gilchrist on the Bolivar Peninsula. A good friend had a house there. Only ONE house remains in that community. Everything of the homes is gone. Three quarters of a million people still don't have power; mine came on Saturday. I stayed with a friend to avoid being in total darkness at night. I still hear generators in my neighborhood. And traffic...ohmygod...it's 10 times worse than usual. Street lights still are flashing, and the HOV lanes are closed - so with all these people on the freeway, it takes hours to get anywhere. I don't want to get on a freeway again here...ever! For so long, a quarter of a century, no hurricane hit Houston, so people here got deluded about one actually coming our way. And now, I've heard countless people say, "oh, they only come every 25 years." Cripes...that's nuts! We could get another one next week or next month...It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature, so these idiots had better stop saying that! However, we survived. So few people died, and that is testament to a good evacuation. I rode out the storm at home, but I live inside the city and not near the coast. We did fine, we'll limp along for awhile and we'll recover. In the mean time, aint nothing wrong with people going to NOLA to spend money. I encourage that all the time! Still just know Texans still very much love Louisiana and New Orleans, but we'd very much like to rip the trachea out of your mayor's throat and give him a hydrochloric acid enema through it. What's interesting to me is...I thought the Nagin special was to not provide your city with evacuation plans & buses then blame the whole mess on federal officials. No thanks, I'll take the Bill White special...cut through the red tape, get things done and take full responsibility. Texans will take care of Texans (AND Louisiana if ya'll ever need help again), Nagin AND federal logistics be damned. Nagin would be wise to not set foot in Texas unless he wants to wear a Columbian necktie.
