Hey bud, we’ve never met. Yeah we write on the same blog etc but we haven’t met face to face per se. I know you love this city and the people who choose to live here. We both share the frustration of Mayor McFuck. He is a fraud. Completely useless unless it serves his own wallet.

Let me share something with you and the three people who actually care about this city. He is not the be all and end all of New Orleans. He will not be “a player” regarding what happens to this city in the future. Yeah he has totally scammed his “people”. He is a lost soul. I feel sorry for him and I hope he awakes someday to his issues.

Do not let him win. How does he win? By good peeps like yourself giving up.

The Orleans Parish Inspector General WILL get the correct amount of funding, I promise. Yeah its a stretch for some radio yahoo to say this but I promise you Rob Cerisolli will be fully funded. The City Council will not take this as a endgame. It just will not be that way. We will keep out culture but we will not keep our corruption. Garbage Contractors beware.

Jack, please please please do not bail on this city and its people over Ray Nagin. All dogs have their day and that dogs day IS COMING.

Like I said, we have never met. But I PROMISE you that the people who can change this city will change it. Just hang in there bud and keep writing. Everyone living here right now needs your thoughts and your view of things. We will get this fixed.

Pardon me while I step over the puke on Decatur Street from the famous New Orleans Halloween celebration.

If you want to party on Halloween, I say go for it with as much gusto as possible. But my goodness, you should have seen leftovers on Decatur this morning around 6 am. Not just bottles, cans and food, but the passed out peeps of New Orleans may have reached record numbers overnight.

And people, if you can’t hold your liquor, at least barf on the street and not the sidewalk. The dog thought it was breakfast for him, I thought it was hideous.

Congrats to SDT though. I scream and holler often about the trash conditions in the quarter but by the time I started walking to the vehicle about 8:30, the streets and the sidewalks had been swept and washed already. Folks trust me when I say it was Mardi Gras style debris so seriously, cool job SDT.

Eddie Jordan has been given a “golden parachute” to get the hell outta office. Boy I hope someone has a parachute for me when they want to can my ass. Screw running radio stations, I need to become an incompetent attorney who lets politicians come into my office and fire all the black folks. I want my golden parachute for screwing an entire city beyond comprehension.

What’s this buzz I’m hearing in my ear? Dr. Blakey? Yeah I know of him. Say what? Call some people in Oakland and find out what really happened while he was helping them recover? No no no, not again. Dammit.

USA Today had an interesting article about New Orleans. Seems the vegetation we have in this area is taking over parts of the city. Some China Talon is out of control, covering entire houses with greenery. Hmmm, maybe that’s what Ray Ray meant when he brought up “green space”

Sadly, I have little birdies in my ear all the time. This one is telling me to vote for Cynthia Willard-Lewis. Why in the world would I do that? She’s “next” huh? Well that would be one way to get TWO new council members in Orleans Parish.

The list of indictments to come is mighty long from what I’m hearing. It’s not going to be pretty but it sure is needed. If you want to see new fresh leaders trying to serve this city, read the above line again. And again. And again. Until you figure out why you must vote for CWL. Read it again dammit!

Remember all the excitement about the “GO” zone? Not the Bohn Zone that Richard critiqued, but the federally run tax breaks/kickbacks that were made available for Hurricane Katrina and Rita devastated areas to help spur investment back in those affected areas? Seems like the New Orleans Metro area got the shaft on this program, as usual. About 15% of the available bonds went to the metro area.

Wanna know why? Yeah you won’t like it. Because the city was not ready with its “master” plan (Do we even still have a plan? Anyone?) The area got behind and the bonds mainly went to big bad Baton Rouge and Lafayette for hotels and such that were planned before the storms. Sweet, thanks again Ray for helping to re-build Baton Rouge. Nice job by OUR mayor, C Ray Nagin.

I wrote awhile back about the midget garbage cans that Ray Ray dumped. The cans that were less than 4 years old. Ray Ray needed “taller” cans. Well, guess what. The “new” cans that are not bombproof mind you; these new cans are shorter than the ones Ray had turned into scrap metal. Yes my friends, shorter than the midget cans. And Ray wants to buy more of these cans. Or already bought more, I just can’t keep track anymore. Much like no one can figure out how many people have been murdered this year. I bring it up all the time, but it continues to blow my mind that no one can get a correct count of murders in New Orleans this year.

We know we’ve already passed last years number. Hell we did that some time in September. Those chants of We’re Number One apply to one thing around here anyway.

I really found the media coverage of the firestorm in California off base and riddled with what I guess is just hate. Not really sure what other way to put it. I don’t begrudge anyone who lost something in one of these situations anything, so I have no problem with people being comfortable and able to eat when a disaster happens. I am happy for them. But to hear someone like Duncan Hunter, a loser from the Republican party who is running for President say, “The people in my area weren’t looting because we’re civilized” (re: Mancow Morning Madhouse 11/01/07) tells me that a lot of people in this country are worthless human beings. And Duncan is leading the parade of worthlessness. You’ve got my vote dude, trust me.

Speaking of which, why would someone want to live in a fire zone? This country shouldn’t allow those people to live there. It’s just going to burn down again next time some kids throw a match on the ground.

Sounds harsh huh? Well then, you know how it felt to us when every talking head in this country was saying it about New Orleans. Interesting thing though, I haven’t heard anyone saying that freaking San Diego shouldn’t be rebuilt.

I’m out, and if this post sucks, don’t blame me cause you got to read it for free.

We’ve had a little rain around here for the last couple of days. We also held a local and statewide election on Saturday. The election was frankly a big giant dud. A belly flop into that water that’s been blocking half the city for the last two days. Some change, hopefully for the better, but still not enough to matter in the big picture. Voter apathy ruled the day, especially in Orleans Parish.

I find it almost cosmic that the areas that generally got the worst of the flooding yesterday were the ones that deserved it. Yeah that’s right, I said they deserved it. The West Bank of Jefferson Parish and New Orleans East still had standing water (or flowing in some cases) Tuesday, almost 24 hours since the heaviest rains fell. Do I know that people who lost personal property were deserving? No I do not. But I also know that every New Orleanian isn’t on welfare but that’s the way we are still portrayed in the national media. Life isn’t fair sometimes, just the way the world works.

I say that those areas are deserving because of that dud of an election on Saturday. Because those areas, above all others in this city, voted the status quo.

Aaron Broussard basically flooded the east bank of Jefferson all by himself during Katrina. He lied on national TV about circumstances dealing with a family friend. He has been in charge for 20 years in Jefferson Parish. How are those pumps on the westbank working Aaron? Who cares, lets re-elect him anyway.

Jackie Clarkson main base is Algiers on the Orleans portion of the West Bank. Did anyone see the dudes going down General DeGaulle is a pirogue? She’s in the runoff for Orleans Parish Council-At-Large. She has been an elected official for over 20 years as well. Nice job with the pumping system in your area Jackie.

Cynthia Willard-Lewis is councilperson for District E, which covers almost all of New Orleans East. She ran for Council at large as well and is the Lady in Red’s opponent in the runoff. How you doing with those pumps in New Orleans East CWL? You’re on top of things out there aren’t you? Yeah we can tell. I won’t even go into the East having no flood protection two years after Katrina.

John Alario was term limited in the House. So he decided to move on over to the Senate. Alario has served the West Bank since Edwin Edwards’s days. He supposedly “brings home the bacon” according to the local talking head FOOLS passing themselves off as “analyst”. Yes he certainly has brought adequate pumping capacity and flood protection to the West Bank. He’s now a new member of the State Senate after Saturday’s election.

Westbank-ers, New Orleans East-ers, you voted for em, you get what you voted for. Nothing. Absolutely Nothing.

October 20th could be the day of reckoning this state has needed for ten years. It could also turn out to be the day the reformers decide to leave. It all comes down from where I sit to two different camps. Camp # 1 wants change, new direction, new leadership and is willing to take a chance on new blood on the assumption that some will be good, some not so good. The other camp wants nothing to change. They like the status quo.

I’m not going to go through a list of people and tell you whom I am voting for this Saturday. Not worth the time. But I will not be voting for ANYONE who has held a public office before. I will not do it. When I tell people this, they look at me like I am crazy for taking a chance on someone who has decided to give some of their time to public service.

Where did the idea come from that only re-tread politicians can run government? Didn’t we all take civics at one time? If you’re over 30 you did. What makes you, or me, or JoeShit the Ragman incapable of sitting at a desk, talking with people and coming up with an idea on how to improve something? Since when did only those “in the loop” know how to get something done? Judging by the current state of affairs from a local state and federal standpoint, all of them are completely useless.

So just why is it that every “major” media endorsement machine in this city continues to “promote” the old guard? Could someone tell me what the Lady in Red has ever done other than cut a ribbon and take credit for crap that she has nothing to do with? Can someone explain to me why we would want a Governor who promotes teaching “creationism” in schools? And just what has that Kat done for the recovery? Hmmmm, Looks like jack squat to me but I’m just a law abiding tax paying citizen, what do I know?

The people in power want the status quo. And that includes the media. Look at their “endorsements”. Jim Donelan. You’ve got to be kidding. Bob Odom? Yeah, 21 federal indictments against him but he’s endorsed by the status quo machine. I don’t need to point out what media outlets these are. It’s not like we have 10 daily papers and 5 weekly.

All I can say is that I’m voting for all fresh blood. May a fraud or a crook burn me? Yeah, could happen. But it cannot get any worse. So I’m taking my shot. Take yours too.

This city is a dirty ass city. Hell sometimes it smells like ass. As has been documented many times on New Orleans Metroblogging, we have a small but diligent group of citizens who will dump their trash in a parking lot, on a street corner, in their neighbor’s yard, uptown or wherever. The larger group of citizens will sometimes get in these uneducated morons face, confronting them on trashing the city where they reside. The clean folks usually end up being threatened with bodily harm but they get the anger off their chest.

We’re a party city. We need trash cans. Lots of them. But apparently, we don’t need trashcans for midgets or other short folks. And our Mayor will spend money on anything but fucking rebuilding. In the latest, greatest magical trash can tour that Ray Nagin has become, he’s gone and spent $335,000 on new trashcans for the city’s streets. Three years after he spent $450,000 on a no-bid deal with the brother of the city’s former CAO Charles Rice. Those trashcans were touted as “bomb-proof”. Yes street corner trashcans are the terrorist main targets in New Orleans. Bridges, domes, ports, hell the mouth of the Mississippi River would be more of a target I would think, but I’m just a tax-paying citizen. Mayor Nagin now calls those “bomb-proof” trashcans for “little munchkins”, obviously referencing Charles Rice, who if memory serves stands about 5 feet 6.

Ray Nagin is a fraud. He either is so clueless to what the priorities should be in this city, his city, or he is a corrupt shyster who sees nothing but dollar signs for his own pocket when he looks around his crumbling city. For all the hue and cry about demolitions that should not have happened, don’t you think the Redevelopment Authority could use some of that money, just some maybe, to prevent historic New Orleans from being torn down, or hell just falling down on it’s own? Half the city doesn’t even have street signs, 25 months after Katrina. Let’s not even start on the number of houses, offices, etc that are still un-gutted. Want the addresses? I’ve got over 300 on a list at work. It’s just insanity what this so-called administration is doing to the future of New Orleans.

Best of all, with this city crumbling around all of us, Nagin and city Sanitation Director Veronica White (Where’s Dr. Ralph when you really need him to call her a “bitch”), say they want to buy MORE trashcans for the city street corners. For another $335,000, grand total $670,000. For trashcans that aren’t even bomb-proof.

When I was a radio sports talk host, I had a co-host who would use that phrase on Monday’s after his college team (He went to San Diego State, not really a bastion of football prowess) got spanked yet again by some loser college football team.

I’d maybe write about the upcoming elections, or the nice phone calls I’ve gotten for bringing Mancow to the radio station or maybe about the new book I’m reading but those things hold no interest to me right now. Frankly, I’ve been waiting 9 months for the NFL season to start. I’ve been dreaming of the 2007-08 season since the day the Bears and the snow took this city out of the playoffs.

After watching last night’s game, all I can really say is my bunghole hurts from that ass-kicking.

The recovery has stalled out. There is no Golden Goose waiting around the corner for this city. The Road Home is 6 billion dollars short. We all know the problems around here; we live and breathe it almost daily. I think the one thing that the majority of us had around here to hold on too was that the Saints would be good, they would entertain us, they would take our minds off the problems if only for three hours.

That ain’t happening now. Maybe it’s the high expectations. Maybe the league figured out Sean Payton. Maybe Ray Nagin kidnapped Drew Brees and put Marc Morial in a Brees suit to fool us all. I’m not really sure anymore but damn this really stinks.

Yeah I know, lifelong fan, should be use to losing, blah blah blah. I’m not accepting that crap. Maybe you’ll accept the Feds telling you that Louisiana and Mississippi got an equal share of federal dollars but I don’t accept it. Just like I’m not gonna accept this team turning out to be America’s biggest Turkey.

Who Dat playing quarterback? It’s not Drew Brees.

Who Dat playing defense? Looks like absolutely no one.

Who Dat breaking long touchdown runs, leaving 10 players in your wake? David Beckham he ain’t.

Who Dat breaking a city’s heart almost as fast as the Katrina gut punch? Dem Saint’s dat’s who.

The spirit, the fire, the energy to win football games in the NFL has not been apparent from the start of the regular season. The boys seem flat and uninterested. No sneaking up on the league this year. The passion that the team displayed last year is what took all of us, these brave souls fighting for a city’s life, on the ride of a lifetime. It’s foolish of us, any of us, fans, media, or the team itself, to EXPECT the Who Dat’s to play the same way. I covered sports for a long time before I came home. I’ve seen it before. Not anywhere to the degree of last season, but I’ve been around teams that had a special season, a breakout year. The next season, every team was coming after them, to knock them back down or to just get the publicity of beating a “better” team. Playing sports is about emotion. A average team that has something to prove can and usually does beat a superior team that isn’t into the game emotionally.

So what does it all mean Howard Cosell? Hell I don’t know, it’s just football. But I do know that a whole bunch of Who Dat’s are close to crying in Who-ville.

An open letter to America:

Good afternoon my fellow Americans. Everyone here in New Orleans wanted to thank you for paying attention to us yesterday. We really do appreciate this country taking time out to say hello on the 2nd anniversary of the thing.

To all the mass media that took time away from covering the latest Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton exploits, thanks for stopping by! It was nice to see you for a change. It’s been what a year or even two for some of you so again, thanks for passing through.

To our wonderful fantastic leaders in Washington D.C., thanks for taking time away from sending taxpayer dollars to either your cronies or to some far away land that needs a windmill. We know how busy you all are, either shooting things in Texas or trying to move a moron from one disaster (see Homeland Security) to another (see Attorney General).

Thanks for giving us that wonderful news President Bush. Even though you made a decision to not speak with anyone who lives here, except for other losers like yourself (meaning politicos), we thank you for noticing that things here are so much better. I know that view from a schoolyard is a really good way to understand what folks here are going through.

Once again, we cannot express how grateful we are for everyone paying attention for a day. It has really made everyone feel safer and just gives us a tingling feeling.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for August 29th 2008. We know we probably won’t see you until then but I’m sure we’ll still be here, waiting for your yearly drop-in.
