There should be a title here, but there isn’t. Get over it.

I had an interesting conversation with a displaced New Orleanean yesterday and she was asking what she could do to help with everything going on down here. That got me to thinking about how people with limited resources (like money and time) could help the city while they’re away. One thing that came to mind immediately is that you could write for metroblog where you’re evacuated. That would be a good way to keep people informed and help shape perspectives on New Orleans as well as give an interesting perspective on life in [whatever city] from an outsider’s perspective. There’s also the possibility that you could post to New Orleans Metroblog or cross post here as well. I’ll have to get the details worked out if there’s some real interest. There must be other ways people evacuated can help so if you can think of anything post it in a comment.

Beyond that though, if you’re in town and can string words into sentences then you might consider signing up with New Orleans Metroblog and contributing here. As you all well know, we’re just a handful of folks and we’re all very busy rebuilding our own lives so more people means more posts, which, in turn, means more information being put out there. There aren’t really so many rules to the thing and its a nice opportunity to speak your mind. There’s a come blog with us link under contact in the right-hand frame.

Not much of a wordsmith but still occasionally have an idea for a post you’d like to see one of us tackle – no problem. Just click on the Suggest a Story link right under the big-ass world map over there->

And of course, your comments are always welcome. We’re all big comment whores so feel free to comment to your little heart’s content.

Did you know that all us authors also have personal blogs, most of which are full of stuff? Well check it out under the Authors Section. You can also find little Bios for us all and coming soon….don’t tell the boys at the head office I’m letting this out early…we’ll be uploading pictures of ourselves so you can put a face (or in my case, an ass) with the name.

So look around, explore the site. Visit other cities and see what’s going on there. We have sites all over the world full of sometimes interesting shit. Oh, and keep in mind this is a volunteer effort. We aren’t paid and don’t have to pander to advertisers – though there are some advertisements on the site which are pretty cool.

Have a site relative to New Orleans and want to let people know about it, just get one of us the link and we’ll add it to the blog roll if it’s good.

As always, thanks for reading and get involved – this is your site as much as it is ours.

New Orleans isn’t listed in the “come blog with us” application.

But hey, I wouldn’t mind being a full time commentator and by the sounds of it, you wouldn’t mind either.

Other than throwing them out with a net or rake?

The Blog for Us URL is indeed closed. However, if you drop me a line, I’ve rounded up about a dozen or so NOLA bloggers, and we’ve having a parallel channel conversation about what we can do to aggregate the work we all do, both as public journalers and as neo-journalists (I’ve fallen out of that latter category of late, but others like Da Po Blog and Right Hand Thief and People Get Ready are keeping it alive).

Also, I was thinking of your posts along time ago (unless I’m confusing you with another blogger) about the IT industry (or lack thereof) when I created the Yahoo group TechNOLA, as a place for people tied to IT to at least start to talk about what we can do to bolster that area of the city, since our city fathers (and mothers) could give a hoot in hell.

I’ve notified the powers that be and New Orleans should be added within hours so try back in a bit.

As for aggregating the work of bloggers, technorati is already doing that on a grand scale. Plus there’s the option on blog rolling the sites which would also accomplish this.

Yes, that was my post about IT in NOLA.

    Is “Technorati” like the “Illuminati?”
