National Night Out Against Crime

Tuesday, August 1, 2006, is the National Night Out Against Crime. Is there a comprehensive website which lists New Orleans neighborhoods that are participating in this important show of community partnership?

If your neighborhood is participating, please leave a note here and I will begin to compile a list.

    Hey Maitri,

I received this the other day. Disclaimer: I am a member of Wild Blue Yonder, but have no financial interest in this gig – in fact, I’m not even sure if we’re getting paid or not!

Not sure if anything is planned for the Irish Channel in general. But for our particular area, on Third between Constance and Laurel, it’s ALWAYS a night out against crime. “Who are you?” “We haven’t seen you around here before.” “Want a beer?” “Oh yeah man. Dat house needs woik.” “HEY! SLOW DOWN YOU IDIOT!” “We ain’t seen him before. Why’s he hangin’ around?” “Hey — I got rum. Who’s with me?” etc etc.

    We’re a pretty tight group.

Milan Neighborhood Group is having an event at Pocket Park, 4320 Dryades St. Which is confusing to me since I’m new to this neighborhood, and when I walked by today I didn’t see any park at 4320 Dryades. But that’s what the flyer says, so there ya go.

A 3 group Night Out is happening on the Napoleon Avenue neutral ground between Constance and Laurel. It’s my group, Bouligny Riverside, Faubourg Marengo and Faubourg Delachaise.

We’re starting up at 6 and closing the joint down at 9. I think the Faubourg Marengo peeps have arranged for bathroom privileges at Miss Mae’s.

Jeez, I s’pose I should post about this on my own blog. Bloggers, come bring food and beverages to cher, I mean share…

There’s a spot for event listings at the NOLA Wiki, but it is empty. I think integrating a Google Calendar into that page would be cool; I’ll ping Alan Gutierrez and see if that’s worth attempting. It would be nice to have a one-stop calendar for all of the planning events and n’hood meetings going on.
