Spike Lee

Next Wednesday January 31st at 6:00pm the Westbank Barnes and Noble in Harvey will host a very special guest. Spike Lee will be signing copies of his books and of course copies of the DVD When The Levees Broke.

I am very happy I am not back from maternity leave yet because this is going to be one hell of a mess to deal with from the organization side of things. If you are interested in meeting this controversial filmmaker, then go and go early. Doors open at 8:00am and they start giving out wristbands at that time. If you get out of line you loose your place and have to start all over again at the back so bring a friend to send for coffee and plan to spend the day.

He will only sign three items per person and he will not sign memorabilia. In addition, one of your three items MUST be When The Levees Broke.

There are many rules to this signing but when you are Spike Lee, you can do that. The fact that you have to buy the documentary does not carry very much weight here in New Orleans but he is doing this at all of his signings all over the country which is wonderful. Wherever he goes tons of people are going to show up and people that may have forgotten about us down here are now going to get a refresher course on what happened and what is still happening. We have to take every little bit we can get.

From Seattle, as a comment of support:

On our public library reservation system there are currently 236 people in line who have requested to see “When The Levees Broke”. This is in a city where I don’t believe the movie even played (I was looking for it but I never saw an ad). Considering that a lot of people don’t use the library reserve system, that seems like a long line to me.

    We haven’t forgotten.

I hope Spike is well received and I hope the media shows up.

I am sure media will be there. Thanks for the reserve info, it’s good to know.
